Suzuki Grand Vitara and Alto to be axed – report

Auto Express has reported that the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Suzuki Alto and Suzuki Splash (a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Agila) are set to get the chop. The SUV roles will be played by the new SX4 and the recently-unveiled new Vitara, which is expected to turn up next month at the Paris show.

The Alto is set to reach the end of the road next spring, handing the baton over to the Celerio city car when it arrives at the beginning of next year, according to the report. The Celerio will be built in Thailand, and will be slightly bigger than the Alto.

Suzuki recently launched its Ciaz compact sedan in India, replacing the SX4 Sedan. Its 2,650 mm wheelbase puts it in C-segment territory, but Maruti Suzuki aims to pit it against the likes of the B-segment Honda City in the country.

The Suzuki Celerio is even worse than the Alto in terms of styling. The Alto’s sole styling flaw was the egg-yolk shaped headlamp, but the rest of the exterior was quite nicely styled especially the front grille, the bodywork & rear end. The Celerio’s body style on the other hand is too conservative and there’s nothing nice about the front face and the rear end. What a big shame..

DRB have done an abysmal job of marketing the Alto (and other Suzuki cars for that matter), It’s no wonder that the Alto is under the radar despite being the cheapest Japanese car on the market today.

Suzuki totally have no direction or idea for growing, they rather focus in JDM and India. And only Suzuki Swift and Vitara is their core product.

Kizashi and SX4 is a great car but poor brand aware make it not desirable, Jimny is more than a decade now and should be replace by a new model, same go to APV, and Wagon R sales is just limited in a few country.
