Honda Grace LX launched in Japan: it’s a City petrol!

Honda-Grace-LX-1

The Honda Grace is no longer a hybrid-only affair, for the Grace LX has launched in Japan, and essentially, it’s a City with the same 1.5 litre direct-injected petrol engine you’d find in the JDM Jazz – our City/Jazz engines are not direct-injected.

The motor sends 132 PS to either the front wheels or all wheels through a CVT gearbox, yielding a quoted JC08 fuel economy of 21.8 km per litre. By comparison, the Grace Hybrid does 34.4 km per litre and our non-direct-injected City claims 17.5 km per litre, but remember, this is the very-optimistic JC08 cycle.

Honda-Grace-LX-3

The Grace’s Gold Brown Metallic, White Orchid Pearl and Tinted Silver Metallic body colours are available, but a striking new Premium Crystal Red Metallic is a Grace LX exclusive. Auto air-con with Sharp Plasmacluster technology and rear vents, keyless entry and start, a leather steering wheel and auto-folding wing mirrors are available.

FWD, 4WD and special needs (with rotating front passenger seat) versions are offered, priced from 1.75 to 2.09 million yen (RM52,900-63,100).

DI, besides having more accurate fuel dispersion… main point is it could make use of higher compression (since DI could cool down temperature a bit as well as squirting fuel into the chamber last minute right before the ‘explosion’) & leaner burn (way more air than fuel) – squeezing out more power out of the same volume of fuel used.

… all that said, good fuel is a requirement.

p/s: I like the word explosion because it sounds more dramatic than combustion.
