Hyundai Sonata – 140,000 recalled in USA and Canada

2015 hyundai sonata us 01

This latest recall doesn’t have anything to do with airbags, but with seatbelts. About 140,000 units of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata are being recalled, specifically 129,000 in the US and 10,401 in Canada.

The problem lies with the seatbelt tongue, as if it’s forcibly inserted into the buckle at a certain angle, there’s a possibility that it can jam, preventing the front passenger from fastening the seat belt. The seat belt warning lamp will illuminate if the front passenger seat belt is not buckled while the seat is occupied.

According to an advisory by Transport Canada, if the vehicle were to be driven in this condition, it could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger occupant in the event of a crash.

This particular safety campaign covers 2015 Sonatas with production dates between April 25 and December 4, 2014, according to Hyundai. There have been no reports of injuries from this issue, and owners will receive notifications by mail in about a month. Dealers will inspect the part and repair or replace it as necessary.

Open recalls are usually only done when safety is compromised. The manufacturer must do so as they are required by law or face stiff penalties like what happened to toyota in the US when they did not do an open recall with regards to the throttle jamming on some of their cars. you dont do an open recall if your aircon button falls off or your power window fails.

      USA

      SUMMARY:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, and Highlander Hybrid, and 2014-2015 Rav4 vehicles. A component of the electric power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may result in failure of the electric power steering system.

      CONSEQUENCE:
An unexpected loss of power steering increases the risk of a crash.

Really don’t care if Sonata is recalled or otherwise.

All I care is that they are the best used kimchi to trade given the very high price gap between buying and selling

I have used the previous Sonata 2.4 YF model for 4 years without a single recall and without a single problem. Based on my ownership experience of the YF, it’s a pretty darn reliable car! No need to make appointments for service…just drive in and done in 1.5 hours. No complaints for me. Loved it and missing it.

recalls should never be treated negatively. Especially large open recalls such as this and the recent airbag recalls. They are a MUST do for any automotive company as it involves safety. Just because a car you own has never had recalls does not mean your car is trouble free, as non-safety related recalls do not require the manufacturer to make a public announcement. These ‘silent’ recalls are usually dealt with when the customer sends their car in for regular servicing. every car is made up of thousand and thousands of components and practically every single one of them is manufactured by an external vendor and the potential for things to go wrong is always there.
