LDP contraflow traffic system becomes permanent

Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) concessionaire Litrak has announced that the morning LDP contraflow traffic system that it began trialling for six months from December last year will now be made permanent, according to a report by The Star. The northbound contraflow runs from Puchong right after the IOI Mall up to the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza.

Litrak chief executive officer Sazally Said mentioned that the system had stabilised after an initial chaotic start on the first day, and improvements have come about following complaints and feedback from road users as well as observations made by Litrak during the trial period.

He said the main aim of the system is to improve traffic and manage its flow, especially at the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza, which is massively congested during morning peak hours. He added that much of the congestion was due to traffic coming in from the Federal Highway at the Motorola Interchange.

Studies had shown that of the 11,480 vehicles moving northbound during peak hours, about a third (3,700) head towards Kelana Jaya and the northern exits, lending the need for the contraflow lane.

During the six-month trial period, studies as well as traffic counts carried out by Litrak’s engineers noted that the the queue on the mainline was shortened to between 400 and 800 metres. The report adds that the queue for those using the contraflow up until the toll plaza currently measures between 300 and 700 metres.

Sazally said that the system aids in saving on travel time. Before it was implemented, the average travel time was 22 minutes to make the four kilometre run from IOI Mall to the toll plaza. “Now, road users on the mainline take about 17 minutes to travel, while contra-flow users take about 13 minutes,” he explained.

In our earlier reports, it was stated that the contraflow lane begins at KM21 (Kelana Jaya-bound) of the LDP in Puchong (opposite HSBC, right after IOI Mall), with the exit at KM18. The contraflow lane is for light vehicles and Touch n Go users only.

The adoption of the system means that Plaza A at the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza in the opposite direction (from Sunway) will be closed during the operating period. Motorists from Sunway to KESAS/Puchong can continue to use Plaza B during contraflow hours.

Malaysia is a super rich country to begin with. In the world, Malaysia is the most resource rich country in the entire world. We have everything, oil, gas, tin, iron, gold, palm, kuprum, coconut, nenas and even some very rare materials that are super high in price.

Infact, we are far richer than even Singapore which is Super Rich. Unfortunately Malaysia has a problem. That problem is called Songlap. If there was no Songlap, the whole country even does not need Tolls.

One man can songlap 2.6 billion is just one news we know. What about the other times he songlap that we don’t know about? I think it runs to hundreds of billions.

Taib songlap US$20 billion (RM80 billion) also nothing happen to him. Infact he was rewarded for his songlap and made Governor

what about the songlaps by the other Menteri and Government officials?

It all runs to hundreds of billions per annum the Songlap.

If you do the maths, the Songlap runs into hundreds of billions (not millions) and there is no need really for tolls if Songlap can be sorted out.

Only a bodoh cannot understand. Most jams are because of the toll. For example Damansara Highway was so smooth. After put toll at Eastin, the whole place got jam for hours.

you are a small boy, still schooling, you cannot understand a time when there was no toll. Go home and study your PMR

IMO, i have to agree that having a toll sometime will cause traffic jam. however, the major cause of traffic jam is the attitude of the driver itself. Another one is, when you are on 4 lane highway and turned into a normal 2 lane road, for sure there will be a traffic congestion. From Litrak perspective, they done their job on studying and providing the best road alternative to reduce the traffic jam. however, its our job too to take care of our attitude when driving.

            cheers.

    • 1KM = RM100 million on Jul 10, 2015 at 4:20 pm

All jams are caused by toll.

Gomen should give free travel. After all, the crony company has sucked so much of money from the rakyat over the years. No where in the world per KM of highway can cost RM100 million (without houses acquisition)

Toll operators can quote RM100 million to make per KM of highway, the highest in the world, with Bangladeshi manpower to make the roads and the Government rewards Toll operators with 40 year contract to collect tolls with tolls increasing every few years.

But originally, how can the toll crooks charge the Malaysian Government (Malaysian public) RM100 per 1KM of highway?

Even European countires where labour is so expensive, per KM of highway only cost less than RM1 million

you should stick to sleeping, eating nasi lemak and waiting for Government help brader. Because eof corruption, not enough money is allocated for public transport.

Can’t do much as Federal Highway is not under Litrak. They really need to move all cars on Federal to NKVE/KESAS

Bloody hell la LDP. Only thinking about themselves. Now everyday there are massive jam surrounding PJS 9 and 10 Bandar Sunway leading into LDP because of the bottleneck created by LDP at the entrance point. Previously people from PJS 9 & 10 Bandar Sunway took about 10 minutes from home to Federal Highway or Kelana Jaya, now have to endure more than 30 minutes of traffic because of the stupid contraflow.

The solution is simple, just abolish the toll booth there.

So for the benefit of the minority, the majority have to suffer?

      Screw you.

Suffer what? Before contra flow, from toll to federal highway/kelana jaya no much jammed. Only before toll got jammed. Their solution is to let more car go thus creating jam at choke point exit to federal highway and every entrance route to LDP after toll. If that what you call eficient, I don’t know what more to say. I dont know what minorities are you talking about because there is no other alternative route from that area I mentioned.

Exactly this. Creating chokepoint after toll booth is not the solution.

I have to admit that the flow before the toll heading from Puchong or Bukit Jalil is a lot smoother now. Much less headache for those who are not heading towards LDP but still have to share the road.

Now if only the toll can be abolished completely, at least we’ll have smooth flowing roads and no tolls.

Abolish LDP(Puchong-Sunway) toll. That toll is the main reason for heavy trafik morning and afternoon.

  • LDP should starts looking at digestion from Putrajaya to Shah Alam and PJ/KL near Tractor Malaysia. They should make a permanent structure to stop traffic from puchong perdana to joint the queue up to the overhead bridge heading to IOI but instead force those traffic to use the U turn before the toll. Many vehicles cut queue to go up the bridge to save time And slowing down the traffic.
