2016 Mercedes-AMG E 63 with 600 hp on the cards?

Mercedes-E63-AMG-002

As we reported earlier, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 is going to be a real beast, and now there are reports coming in that its 4.0 litre V8 engine will have “something in the range” of 600 hp.

If proved accurate, this sedan will be even more powerful than the current Mercedes-AMG GT S, which is pretty staggering. According to Autocar UK, the company will probably use the same engine in the upcoming AMG GT3 as well. Mind you, though, that the BMW M6 Competition Package already offers 600 hp as it is, so it’s not exactly unchartered waters here.

Still, the new E63 is expected to be lighter than the outgoing version, and it’s expected to be the first AMG model to showcases Mercedes-AMG’s new nine-speed automatic transmission. It is believed that the E63 will be on sale in 2016, with the standard E-Class to launch at the start of next year. Apparently, the standard car is due to receive its global debut at the Detroit motor show next January.
