VIDEO: Mazda Malaysia teases the Mazda MX-5

https://youtu.be/S9XeuD-EbHY

Bermaz has begun teasing the Mazda MX-5 as the vehicle gets ever closer to its introduction here – a video showcasing the open-top appeal of the car has gone up on Mazda Malaysia’s YouTube channel, but the ND isn’t the only MX-5 showcased in the clip.

Previous-gen roadsters are featured, bombing along down the open road, with an unfettered view of the world. Lots of manuals on show, and the smiles on the drivers’ faces says it all. Nothing like going topless, really.

The video is essentially a variation of the Look Up video seen in post highlighting the Australian launch of the car last week – the MX-5 arrives Down Under priced from AUD$31,990 (RM92,411) for a 1.5 litre model.

We won’t be getting the 1.5, nor will be getting the manual transmission option that’s seen on the ND in the video – the Malaysian car will be a 2.0 litre with an auto transmission, and price-wise, Bermaz CEO Datuk Seri Ben Yeoh revealed last month that the lightweight Jinba Ittai roadster will go for between RM190k-210k, depending on equipment.

Why is it still using smiley grill?
Why not big nose grill like those entire koala range?

I guess its all about business since only AT to be offered. But I dont understand why stop bringing the MT in? We understand many will favor on ATs but since placing the roadster at such price tag it already became part of niche market player, it is no different compare to MT targeted buyers. Bermaz could bring the MTs in and perhaps let it be the base model at much lower price – this definitely will attract more buyers.

Dear Bermaz, please do not let the MPS experiences scare you off, if you do, you should not let the MX5 in..

like it or not, this (and gt86) is expensive in malaysia. very expensive. most people who love to drive manual (e.g. me) cant afford it. and people who bought it most likely to show off only. so a good business model is to bring auto.
still i hate bermaz. even mazda2 no manual T_T

Scream and shout about manual, but how many of you gonna get it? Focus ST, Megane RS, 3 MLS, you add up the sales of all 3, still behind the sales of an auto GTI.

Golf GTI is all rounder, everyday driver car compare to 3 car you mention above which is more hardcore. Even people who doesn’t love car that much heard about Golf GTI before compare to those three. Maybe because of brand itself and not just because of manual transmission. People in Malaysia looks Volkswagen as a premium car compare to Ford, Renault and Mazda.
      Sales of passenger vehicles 2015:
      Volkswagen: April 684, May 438, June 605
      Ford: April 161, May 225, June 307
      Renault: April 23, May 39, June 24
If there an option for manual on Golf GTI, I believe the sales on manual GTI still a lot more compare than those 3.
And also I saw more Megane RS on the road compare to auto Clio RS which is none.

Honda Malaysia can respond to this by importing in the upcoming S1000 and price it under RM150k and it’ll be a winner.

  • No MT, no 1.5? You will only sell 2 units this year. Thank you Bermaz you did it again.
