2018 Ford Mustang facelift to get new 10-speed ‘box

2016 Ford Mustang GT

The latest Mustang was first revealed in late 2013, before going on sale the following year. According to a report on Automotive News Europe, though, a 2018 Ford Mustang facelift is already in the works. While details of the updates are scarce, the changes will be subtle, save for an all-new transmission.

Apparently, changes will include a new front fascia that will replace the already-aggressive looking face. Don’t expect major changes, however. Just a little bit of light modernisation to keep it in tune with the times, perhaps.

In addition to that, the 2018 model year Mustang will reportedly have its six-speed automatic transmission swapped out for Ford’s new 10-speed gearbox, as seen on the latest F-150 Raptor. It’s likely that the 2.3 litre Ecoboost turbo and 5.0 litre Coyote V8 will still be retained, so one can look forward to better fuel efficiency and performance, if the new pairing comes true.

Sources also say that a performance option is in the plans, with a Ford Mustang Mach 1 edition rumoured to coincide with the facelift. The last Mach 1 performance package appeared in the previous-generation Mustang, which featured an uptuned 4.6 litre V8 engine.
