Minimum top-up of electronic transaction cards at the Penang Bridge reload lanes to be increased to RM50

In a bid to ease congestion in the area, PLUS Malaysia has announced that the minimum top-up value of electronic transaction cards allowed at the Penang Bridge reload lanes will soon be upped to RM50. Previously, the minimum top-up amount was set at RM10.

UPDATE: PLUS has postponed this move – originally set to go live today, October 15 – to a later date.

Having adopted the full electronic toll transaction system since September, the company’s managing director Datuk Noorizah Hj Abdul Hamid said, “the move is being implemented after thorough studies had been carried out at the reload lanes on the Penang Bridge.

“Based on our studies and observations, long queues at these reload lanes affected the traffic flow at other electronic payment lanes. As such, this move has to be made to reduce the frequency of users reloading their cards at the reload lanes on the Penang Bridge,” she added.

Should you still intend to reload your Touch ’n Go or PLUSMiles cards under the newly-implemented RM50 minimum, you may still do so without incurring any additional charges at PLUS Customer Service Centres at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza office building, Juru, Sungai Dua on the North-South Expressway (NSE) or Kubang Semang on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) toll booths.

“Other than reload lanes on the Penang Bridge, the public can also top-up their electronic cards at more than 580 reload locations around Penang, such as at ATM machines, petrol stations, 24-hour convenience stores, selected hypermarkets and so on,” said Noorizah.

I’m pretty sure your so called studies are from your own assumption and not from any actual observations.

Toll rate so expensive now. RM50 can last you how many rounds?
