BMW Malaysia gets new MD and CEO, Han Sang Yun

Han Sang Yun has been appointed by BMW AG as the new MD and CEO of BMW Malaysia. He will be taking over from Alan Harris effective January 1, 2016. Harris, who has served as MD and CEO of BMW Malaysia for the past two years, will be retiring from his position.

Han has over two decades worth of experience in the automotive industry, primarily in his home country, Korea. Previously the Head of Sales for the BMW Group in Korea, he was also overseeing marketing and product management for the brand in the country as well.

As the new MD and CEO for BMW Malaysia, his tasks will involve further expanding the brand’s market share. In addition to that, he will be tasked to identify new growth opportunities alongside Malaysia’s ambition to be an automotive hub in the South East Asian region.

During Harris’ tenure, he introduced locally-assembled BMW models, namely the BMW X6 and 1 Series. Programmes such as BMW World Malaysia, as well as the expansion of the group’s headquarters in Cyberjaya and BMW Group Parts Distribution Centre in Johor were also overseen by him.

BMW Malaysia’s latest five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty and five-year/100,000 km free scheduled service package, was also introduced during Harris’ tenure.

Surprise move that they got a new guy to come in.

But then again, considering the rapid growth of Mercedes Benz, BMW AG must have considered it’s time to get someone different to run the show.

More competitively priced and equipped BMWs perhaps?

LoL! They got a Korean dude to be the CEO.
If you thought Chinaman boss was bad, wait till you get a Korean boss.

Most of the soft employees at BMW Malaysia will be looking for a new job soon.

Annyeong Haseyo! It would somehow will be an awkward moment at a press launch he might do a Gangnam style dance. Hahaha

On a serious note, Mr. Han will have a challenge with Malaysia’s shitty imposed tax duties NAP AP policies. Wish you all the best and as a BMW owner I hope you can make BMW more affordable for many people starting with the crucial upcoming Audi A3 sedan and Mercedes CLA rival – the front-wheel drive 2-Series sedan. Please price it below RM170k.

Yeah cheap, thats why the A3 is everywhere, more than the expensive 3 series right? Oh wait, Audi sells less than 150 cars a month in malaysia but bmw sells more than 700.

Why the top guy must be a foreigner/expat?

The locals do not have the skill sets to run BMW brand in a country?

I am proud of my industry where it got very localised the past 10 years. Engineering manager, operations manager, country managers are all local. In an American company, this is quite rare. Other locations in S.E.As are all still chaired by expats. The locals are on par/better than the expats to the point that very little expats left and the numbers are coming down even further given low oil prices.
