Mercedes-AMG A 45 2015 World Champion Edition unveiled – celebrate drivers’ and constructors’ F1 titles

Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC Champions Edition

Clinching two drivers’ and constructors’ world championship titles in a row in Formula One is no mean feat, and to celebrate the milestone, Mercedes-AMG has revealed a new special edition of the A 45. Dubbed in full (deep breath) the Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic Mercedes AMG Petronas 2015 World Champion Edition, the uber hatch gains a smattering of “petrol green” highlights to match the winning F1 W06 Hybrid racer.

These include green and black stripes along the top and sides of the car, along with a green flange on the 19-inch cross-spoke wheels. Also fitted is a larger front splitter, while the Night package, AMG Exclusive package plus and AMG Dynamic Plus package are also thrown in as standard. Buyers can choose between mountain grey metallic, designo mountain grey magno and polar silver metallic for the body colour.

Inside, there’s special Mercedes AMG Petronas badging on the centre console, standard electrically-adjustable AMG Performance seats in leather and Dynamica microfibre, as well as green seat stripes, topstitching, air vent rings, seat belt stripes and steering wheel 12 o’clock marker.

No changes to the mechanicals, so the World Champion Edition retains the facelifted model’s 381 hp/475 Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine matched to an AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well as AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive.

“With the World Champion Edition we would like to share with our customers our delight and pride in the strong performance of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team,” said CEO of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers. “This is a way for every fan to share the success of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.”

The World Champion Edition is making its world debut at the season-closing 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, before going on sale for a limited time, from January to May next year. In Germany, it’ll be priced at €65,402 (RM293,800), or €66,818 (RM300,200) with the matte designo mountain grey magno paint.

This is not the first time an A-Class has received a special edition inspired by the Formula One team – the standard model features a Motorsport Edition with the same petrol green highlights, while the pre-facelift A 45 got a Japan-only Petronas Green Edition.

Every time I look at A45 AMG, it reminds me of Iriz. I don’t know why.
