Subaru BRZ facelift leaked: new face, interior changes

Subaru BRZ facelift leak 1

Last week, Toyota unveiled a facelift for the 86; now, we get to see what’s in store for that car’s sibling, the Subaru BRZ. Photos of the refreshed Pleiades-badged sports car have been leaked over on the FT86Club forums showing similar upgrades inside and out to the Toyota.

The front end has been redesigned, incorporating more angular design cues inspired by the BRZ STI Performance Concept – there’s a new U-shaped front spoiler, while the previous C-shaped LED positioning lamps have given way to what look like proper daytime running lights, with a squared-off design. The indicators also now appear to be LEDs, as they are on the facelifted 86.

Interestingly, the rear of the BRZ doesn’t get the new 86’s reprofiled bumper, nor its new faux fender vents, but it does receive the Toyota’s revised LED tail lights and new 17-inch two-tone machine-finish alloy wheels.

Inside, we see the new multifunction steering wheel from the 86, but there’s also added red stitching on the dashboard, plus gloss carbon fibre trim and a new gauge cluster with redesigned graphics and a large colour display on the right – none of which the Toyota gets.

Expect the car to feature the mechanical upgrades from the facelifted 86, including revised springs and dampers (though probably with slightly different settings from the Toyota, as is the case with the original twins), along with the addition of Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

The manual version should also receive revised gear ratios, as well as increased outputs from the 2.0 litre D-4S direct injection flat-four, from 200 hp and 205 Nm to 205 hp and 214 Nm.
