The Land Rover Discovery Sport replaced the long-serving Freelander 2 model here in Malaysia last year, joining the brand’s new Discovery family which slots above the Defender range and below the more premium Range Rover models. Earlier this year, the diesel version was introduced for this market.

Two engine options are now available: 2.0 Si4 petrol with 240 PS and 340 Nm of torque, and a 2.2 SD4 turbodiesel with 190 PS and 420 Nm. Both are matched to a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels. Naturally, the petrol version is quicker off the line, while the diesel model is more economical.

Prices start from RM420,000 for the standard petrol (RM10,000 less than the similarly-powered but physically smaller Evoque), while the diesel brings it up to RM450,000. A long list of options are available, including a Black Pack for the exterior, larger wheels, side steps, Meridian sound system and more.

It’s no budget option, that’s for sure, but it does offer seven seats (5+2) and that trademark go-anywhere Land Rover characteristics over its rivals. Do watch our walk-around video above to find out all you need to know about the SUV, or go to for the full specifications and equipment list.
