Let’s be quite honest here – in Malaysia, motorists run the red light all the time. It’s completely irresponsible, and yet people just keep on doing it, blind to the dangers of what could be coming on the other side. And this video shows just how wrong it could all go when the traffic signals go unheeded.

At the intersection, we can see several motorcyclists from the left running the red light to turn right, stopping only to let passing cars through before crossing. Eventually, the traffic clears up, and three bikers take turns to cross the road – but just as the last one is about to make it through, he gets hit by a speeding Perodua Alza coming from the right, to the horror of the people in the car recording the incident.

The tragic thing is that the motorcyclist crosses the red light just a few seconds before the light on his side turned green – had he been patient enough to wait just a little while more, this accident would have been avoided completely. Although the traffic light for the other side is just out of shot here, the driver in the Alza also appears to be speeding to try and beat the red light.

The moral of the story here is simple – be patient when on the road. You share the road with everyone else, who are all trying to get to where they are going as quickly as possible. Breaking traffic laws because you believe your time is more important is not only incredibly dangerous, it’s also ridiculously inconsiderate, and this rings true whether you run the red light or use the emergency lane to beat the traffic.

After all, no appointment or deadline is worth risking your life over – or indeed, anyone else’s.
