With the recent teaser of Modenas’ two, new for 2017, full-sized motorcycles, in naked sports and full-fairing formats, we now have spyshots of the upcoming third model, a 150 cc cruiser-styled machine. Said to be based on the Bajaj V15, the Modenas version looks to be styled closely on the bikes of yesteryear, notably the Moto Guzzi of the 80s.
Carrying a 149.5 cc, air-cooled, SOHC, two-valve engine, the V15 as listed on the Bajaj website is claimed to put out 12 hp at 7,500 rpm and 13 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Rolling on an 18-inch wheel in front and a 16-inch hoop at the rear, braking is with a single disc on the front wheel, and drum at the back.
Fuel is carried in a 13-litre fuel tank with a 1.7-litre reserve, and seat height is set at 780 mm. Kerb weight is rated at 135.5 kg.
What do you think? Is this a worthy successor to the Modenas Jaguh, which proved to be popular in its market segment some 15 years ago? Leave a comment with your thoughts and opinions, below.

Retro-style round headlight should suit much much better to the overall design of this bike. The existing headlight looks…. very hideous. Modenas must realize this.
correct… i feel u
Should rename the successor to Jaguh Kampung!
This ain’t even made by modenas
And modenas just rebadged it, probably have no say on design
The Jaguh only had a 175 cc engine. Should have made it at least 250cc.
Retro, slow but steady and underpowered. Who is the target market?? Can break even or not?? If it’s a 250 cc with higher hp, then the customer base could be wider.
You should see the current retro bikes like the Demak D7 & KTN GP125…
all are underpowered, yet the current crowd love it
Oops square lights
That Bajaj is also based on the Kawasaki Eliminator 175, which is the base for Modenas Jaguh too.
So what new technology does Modenas get through this colaboration? The Modenas cafe racer concept that they previously did is way better looking than this!
The only “technology” bajaj have is the triple spark plug system which imo pointless when or if 1 of the spark should fail the whole system will fail
Other than that probably cheaper tooling set or local rnd
Kawasaki only produced Eliminator in 125cc n 250cc guise for the B2-friendly market
The partnership with Modenas that saw EL125 was bored out to 175cc, whilst the Bajaj ones was make do with 150cc only (see Bajaj Avenger 150)… but strangely, Jaguh uses 150cc-sized carb, while Avenger sports bigger ones…
Currently Bajaj still produce the Avenger in 150cc and 220cc guise…
Still hoping they get the TT200 project to work though
Kawasaki did sell an eliminator 175, Thailand is one of the markets that got them.
In Thailand, it’s called Kawasaki Joker. 175cc.
Is this a worthy successor? NO. The Jaguh was not remotely a good bike and this is worse. It’s successor should be a straight up bike that can be used as a commuter and, with suitable attachments, able to double duty as a workhorse. Nobody wants a bike that looks cheap to go leisure riding. The Yamaha FZ-150 is a good example of what I mean.
The spec are crappy at best
Sohc with 2 valve and probably still using carburetor
And the fact using 18 front and 16 rear wheel make it even harder as a spare part where 17 is the common ground
Looks like gonna compete with the likes of chinese motorcycle
Request for tachometer for the bike. At least 250cc. Kapcai already 150cc. nowadays.
Modenas should be able to define and realise their own technology as well as products by now. Rebadging exercise will not ensure long term sustainability for Modenas. Technology transfer should assist Modenas to spur innovation and come out with their own technology and products for Malaysian instead of keep rebadging. Bila lagi?
At least 250cc with tachometer. Bajaj V15 very basic in instrumentation no tachometer.
All those who bought Jaguh hated it. This is even uglier!
Urghh..ugly. worse than the old Jaguh. Modenas bosses dont have eyes ka? Or got no taste what so ever?
Interesting bike this one. This bike is designed as a commuter bike.Read the review on the V15,I must say it does have its drawbacks but the trump cards are the fuel economy n ease of riding in town.
It may not be everyone’s cup of tea.I myself do not mind this bike as daily ride but have to wait for the actual price.
I’ve ridden many kapchais over the years. While they are cheap to run and practical,my large frame does put me in a uncomfortable riding position and not to mention performance do suffers.Fz is good bike but the price is a bit high for my budget.
I love ugly bikes like this. I think the ugly headlamp is ok, although I’d prefer a round one. More retro, as you guys pointed out. If the price is right (cheap, really), I’m gonna get one. No speed is ok but must have torque to pull away fast from traffic lights and climb up Genting. That’s all I’ve got to say. Oooo… Must be comfy for my backside.
Cheap price..but when comes to tyre replacement very limited choice and expensive
