A list of the top 30 world’s best-selling cars in Q1 2017 has been released by JATO Dynamics, a global supplier of automotive business intelligence.

At the very top is the Ford F-Series trucks with 243,978 units sold, a testament to the demand for the pick-up truck in North America. The Blue Oval isn’t just focusing on its domestic market either, as strong demand for pick-up trucks in China prompted the company to officially export its F-Series trucks to the country.

Coming in behind the F-Series is a nameplate that is familiar to the masses – the Toyota Corolla. Though it had previously held the number one spot numerous times, the Corolla’s sales volume off 214,618 units means it’ll have to settle for second place instead.

A big surprise in the third spot is the Nissan X-Trail (or Rogue in other countries), which managed to outsell the Honda CR-V with 212,244 units. If you’re wondering what a Wuling Hongguang is, it is the MPV on which the Chevrolet Enjoy is based on.

Honda has more models occupying the top 10 spots compared to Nissan and Toyota with the Civic in fifth place (178,605 units), CR-V in sixth (177,473 units) and HR-V/XR-V/Vezel in 10th place (167,051 units).

Further down the top 30 list, we find the Volkswagen Polo in 14th place (148,331 units), the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in 21st place (127,485 units), the Mazda 3/Axela in 27th place (108,808 units) and Volkswagen Passat/Magotan in last place (102,067 units).

Wow…as expected globally corolla is better than civic and camry is better than accord…take that honda fanboys who always look up when driving brv low cost vehicle meant for third world countries…no harm if you look straight while driving…be a bit humble…its only a brv anyway

Sir! Pls read the fifth paragraph. Btw I m not honda fanboys.

      • This is the only chance for Toyota fanboys like you to brag. But it won’t change anything locally because Toyota sales is still declining. You can’t blame BR-V owners for feeling a bit smug because Toyota’s equivalent model, the Rush is so laughable.

Base on the quarterly figure supplied by JATO(top 30), there is no surprise that :-

1)VW still top the standing with 759,964 units sold 2)Toyota with 683,844 units sold.
3)Honda came out 3rd with 574,700 units sold.

There U have it, after all the hoo-har(diesel-gate), VW still at the TOP.

The Toyota Corolla – an outgoing and aging model at number two! Certainly, attested to the model’s popularity!

If anything, this list proves how important the U.S. and Chinese markets are in the global auto industry.

The Ford F-Series is no.1, and yet, is mainly sold in America. The Wuling Hongguang is no.7, despite being a China-only model. The same is true for the Dodge Ram (U.S.), Chevrolet Silverado (U.S.), VW Lavida (China) and Haval H6 (China).

If a major car company isn’t selling well in either China or the U.S. today, then they’ve already lost.

Xtrail really strong as it is against the new 2017 CRV in US and not the current CRV in Malaysia.

Surprisingly both the Corolla and Camry outsold Civic and Accord which is completely the opposite here.

    • I also find it a big surprise that the aging X-Trail/Rouge can give the CR-V a beating worldwide. And here in Malaysia it is one of the laku-keras models you can see everywhere in the road. Looks like people value the 5+2 seats over the 2 airbags. My goodness. Imagine if ETCM brings in the facelift super pronto with minimum six airbags, sure I also go buy one to go masuk jungle bawak mountain bike. In fact the 5 seater Hyrbid model will do us nicely if priced right. ETCM product planner sila bangun dari tidur yah, takkan 3 tahun masih tak bebangun.
