June 2017 week four fuel prices – petrol goes down

It’s another Wednesday, which means time yet again for a new round of weekly fuel prices. Yet more cheer again for motorists, as prices drop for a fourth week in a row, but only for RON 95 and RON 97 petrol, with no change in the price of diesel from last week.

From tomorrow, June 22, RON 95 petrol will be priced at RM1.91 per litre (down seven sen from RM1.98 per litre last week), while RON 97 petrol is priced at RM2.17 per litre (down seven sen from RM2.24 per litre last week).

As for Euro 2M diesel, the price remains at RM1.88 per litre (which was down six sen from RM1.94 previously) this week, while Euro 5 diesel continues to be pegged at RM1.98 per litre (down six sen from RM2.04 previously). These prices take effect from midnight until June 28, when the next price adjustment will be announced.

This is the 13th weekly fuel pricing update since the system’s implementation on March 30. Compared to March 2017 prices, which was before weekly pricing took effect, RON 95 is down by 39 sen (from RM2.30 per litre), RON 97 by 43 sen (RM2.60 per litre), and diesel down by 32 sen (RM2.20).

    I hope PDAM don’t bising lagi with this round of reduction. When go down, sure they make noise but whenever price goes higher, PDAM members make millions each and they keep quiet. But when price goes down (which is rarely), PDAM members demand Government pay them compensation.

    But past 20 years, each made millions in clean profit each year. Why did they not save for a rainy day?

    High time, all petrol lesen is open to all 30 million people in Malaysia. Don’t give it to a selected group like the AP permits. Give it to every deserving Malaysian who can afford to run a petrol station.

    The PDAM are a bunch of greedy cry babies. If they cannot compete, open the lesen up to everyone in Malaysia

    Btw, what happened to the supposedly price war by station operators?

    Gomen said this would be healthy as some stations can sell below the official price.

    What happened? PDAM so stingly, cannot even drop 1 sen for the rakyat but demand gomen to pay them billions.

    PDAM members are all kebal. Cause they are cronies, wives or sons of existing politicians. So, anything they say, Cabinet will kowtow!

        Hello,another 20-30 closing shop next week if price keep on dropping.
        Kesian.
        If war is a distant event in north Korea or Iran,and USA keep pumping excess shale oil,the price of West Texas crude may go down to US 30 a barrel.
        By then,maybe 20 percent of these petrol dealers would have folded,…be PREPARED,another economic tsunami on the way.

      Well said!
      Also when price goes down, the margin loss is only the remaining stocks in the tank (which only last a few days the most). What is forgotten is that they make guaranteed profit (fixed by the government) for the remaining ~ 28 days.
      The gross petrol margin is about 12sen/L and Diesel 7 sen/L. Not to mentioned the other non-fuel income like shop merchandising, cigarettes etc.
      Fuel retailing is one of the safest and least risk business that not many people are able to get the license on.
      So treasure your license when you are already given so much opportunity!

      The drop of price is due to Global Crude Oil Price went down, so nothing to do with Government…whilst the increase last time was done when crude basically flat, and due to weaken MYR, which government always relates to economic state…rakyat not stupid la, we can judge and we do reads between the lines. So stop giving stupid comments guys.

    Why diesel remain at same price? Comes from crude oil too. Anyone care to explain?

      Yes, diesel also derives from crude oil but individual components of crude oil have their own pricing. In one week many people want Gasoline than Diesel and vice versa.

    When will people realize that when the global fuel prices drop, our fuel prices should drop accordingly because we follow the “market price” and of course the value of our Ringgit plays a part too. So, why are people saying that the Gov should take credit and be praised? They have to drop the price, otherwise we will be over paying for our fuel.

    Having said that, is the price drop accurate or not, we won’t know because the formula was never made public. Maybe the price should actually be RM1.80/litre but people are more than happy to see it dip below RM2. For all you know, we are all happily over paying all these while.

  • We should fear fuel station owners may fiddle around with their pumps at this moment of time;
    1.Ron97 tanks are filled with Ron95 instead. I have seen clear fuel coming out from Ron97 pumps many times.
    2.Not getting the actual volume that we are paying for.

    The formula was revealed and I can tell u now;
    S’pore MOPS (in MYR per liter) + RM0.32 = (Actual Malaysian fuel price.

    U first need access to MOPS and when u do, multiply to BNM’s announced exchange rate and divide by 159 cos that’s the volume for a barrel. When u get the MYR per liter, add in RM0.32 (Alpha Premium RM0.05 + Oil company’s margin RM0.05 + Transport & Marketing costs RM0.10 + Fuel station dealer’s margin of RM0.12(!)) and that’s your Malaysian Free Float Market Price.

    At least this is the case if gov have yet changed the formula.
