GIIAS 2017: Toyota Voxy – third-gen facelift debuts

The facelifted Toyota Voxy was another debutant at the 2017 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). It’s the first time the MPV – essentially a scaled-down Alphard/Vellfire – is being sold in the republic via official channels, the refreshed third-gen coming in as a CBU import from Japan.

Only one variant is being offered by Toyota Astra Motor, a seven-seat 2.0 litre model. It’s equipped with a 3ZR-FAE twin-cam four-pot offering 152 PS (or 150 hp) at 6,100 rpm and 193 Nm at 3,800 rpm, and the unit is mated to a seven-speed Super-CVTi transmission.

Equipment for the Voxy – which measures in at 4,710 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,835 mm tall, with a 2,850 mm-long wheelbase – includes tri-zone climate control, seven airbags, cruise control, an Optitron instrument cluster and a rear parking camera.

Also on the kit list, second-row Captain seats, an advanced entertainment system with a 10-inch display, a double moonroof, 16-inch seven-spoke alloys (with 205/60 profile tyres) and the usual assortment of safety gear, including seven airbags, hill start assist, VSC and an emergency brake signal.

Three exterior colour options are available for the Voxy for the Indonesian market, and these are Inazuma Sparkling Black, Blach and White Pearl. As for pricing, the Voxy 2.0L A/T is priced at 446 million rupiah (RM143,500), on-the-road.

  • Safety kits including emergency brake signal…..
    Is that a selling point?

Toyota boxy. Nothing to be surprised. A seriously underpowered NA engine (typical of Toyota) mated to a rubber band effect cut transmission. Outdated tech again. No wonder sales of Toyota vehicles are dropping.

Last week, I drove the same rented Voxy for 9 days with a total 4 adults + 4 large trolley bags + 4 back pack.
    Below are my verdict:
Pros: Cabin is spacious, comfortable, quiet, ergonomic, fit and finishing is good with hard plastics, Auto power sliding door on both side, looks (My opinion),
Cons: Under powered (Noisy when overtaking and somewhat takes way too long to pick up speed), steering is too light weighted, Not-so-fuel efficient (manage to clock 10km/L at best), no rear power boot despite its huge(heavy) presence.

Seen one myself in japan. Looks quite nice indeed with good proportion unlike the narrow serena. Might sell well in malaysia if well specced and priced.

    • So? Why do My have to follow what people like? WTH.. every people have their own interest in buying car. It’s their money to buy SUV or MPV or even kapcai. PT just a platform to get some input about car.

Other names : Noah, NAV1, Esquire. Same class with Serena. Only in Indon in this region. Dunno y UMW never bring into Msia. May be competition with recond Vellfire/Alphard/Estima. Or those tax which may increase the price.

  • Toyota should have bring this in to local market so that it can compete with the Serena and ugly duckling little Mazda Biante. Price it well, for sure can tapao that segment. It looks far better than those two, and also Sienta.

    • Unless its built in Thailand or Indonesia (or even locally if they took the wrong medicine), this will remain premium priced as long as its CBU.
