With thousands of vehicles on the road every day, children – from infants to five – are always at risk being seated in the back seat without any tailored safety features in place. Many still have a nonchalant attitude towards safety, the biggest misconception being that children are safe sitting on an adult’s lap or protected in the arms of parents in the event a collision.
The statistics say otherwise. A Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) study found that children transported in private vehicles are the first and second leading groups of casualties among children under the age group of one to four years old (43.8%) and five to nine years old (30.2%). The use of a child car seat can make the difference between life and death.
The challenge to change the mindset is an ongoing one, and Rampai Puteri Medical Centre (RPMC), a hospital dedicated for the care of mothers and children, is doing its bit for the cause – it’s organising a road safety campaign to create awareness on the importance of using child safety seats in vehicles.
The KL-based hospital’s month-long Buckle Up, Baby! campaign begins on November 1, and the initiative will see a child safety seat being given free to every baby delivered at the RPMC, with the very first use of the seat being for the journey home.
To ensure the success of this campaign, RPMC is collaborating with MIROS as co-organiser to assist in the implementation of the campaign and provide technical expertise on the correct use of the child safety seat.
The road safety awareness campaign isn’t only to instill awareness to the parents and the public in general about the significance of using child safety seats. It also hopes to inculcate good riding behaviour while travelling in vehicles by ensuring all occupants, both front and rear, fasten their seatbelts.

Bravo & Kudos to Rampai Puteri Medical Centre (RPMC)for their generosity in providing child car seat for its customers. That’s what I called Corporate Social Responsibility.
Good move so it can bring more business to the hospital next month when it charges for delivery fees.
When it’s a carseat it’s called Corporate Social Responsibility. When it’s in RM it’s called Year End Promo.
There is no such thing as free. The ‘free’ child seat is already included in the hospital bill.
U are right, There is no such thing as a free lunch. If U read carefully, this campaign begins on November 1 & RPMC said they will give a FREE safety seat for every baby delivered at their hospital. Is that so difficult to understand ??!
i already have a child seat. if i dont want this “FREE” child seat, can i get a discount on the bill ?
good job!..but i saw many parents still not using it..their reason ‘baby starts crying if put into the seat’..change their mentality is more important
Tax payers money or through their own initiative?
How would a private entity use public money to give those seats? I’m sure you would know since you brought it up. Care to share it would be done?
They will sell it online k…mindset is not set yet …they rather hve the kid moving around in thd car as it cute and its playtime in car…i hve seen drivers holding his child while driving k
What is the child car seat model & brand?
Koopers Jive, if I’m not mistaken.
Many parents still too lazy and terrible at being parents to use a free seat.
