In mid-December, Naza Kia put up a teaser website for the new Kia Picanto, which included some preliminary specifications. As a follow up, the company has now revealed a launch date for the JA generation model via its social media channels – January 10, 2018.
This is pretty much in line with what we were told during an early preview of the model in November, where Naza Kia announced that the car will be launched in the first quarter of next year. No prices were disclosed at the time, although sales advisors hinted at a sub-RM60,000 price tag, which is close to what the soon-to-be outgoing model retails for (RM61,888 OTR with insurance).
The equipment list includes projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights and keyless entry, a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, plus a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines. Safety wise, six airbags, ABS, stability control and hill-start assist are all present.
No word on what will power the Picanto, but expect the same 1.25 litre four-cylinder petrol engine to be of service, making 87 PS at 6,000 rpm and 122 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. A four-speed automatic transmission will likely be paired with it, but a five-speed manual as found on the previous model might be given a miss due to low demand.
Until the aforementioned date, those who are interested can register their interest on the site, here.

Comments express excitement about the new Kia Picanto's launch but note it is overpriced and underwhelming compared to competitors like Proton Iriz and Perodua Myvi. There are strong safety praises for Picanto, especially for its airbags, but some find it less fuel-efficient and too expensive for its size. Many prefer local models like Myvi and Iriz due to price and safety features, while others remain optimistic about Kia's offerings and market potential.
