The Kia Grand Carnival 2.2D SX is now available in Malaysia and joins the locally-assembled MPV range as the new range-topping variant. Priced at RM188,888 (on-the-road, excluding insurance), it effectively replaces the EX, which means the Carnival is only available in KX (RM161k) or SX trim. Just to note, this is not the facelifted model, in case you’re wondering.
Before we get to the meat and potatoes, just keep in mind that the EX went for RM180,668, so the SX isn’t that much costlier. With that, it gets HID projector headlamps (up from halogen units), Diamond Glitter LED positioning lights, new Tiger Nose grille with chrome pins instead of the regular horizontal slats and a revised front bumper.
The lower front bumper is now equipped with projector fog lamps with chrome garnish, and the front and rear bumpers now come with skid plates. Elsewhere, it gets new 19-inch Chrome Sputtering alloys (upgraded from the EX’s 18-inch items) and two new paint colours – Blackberry, which replaces Titanium Brown in the colour palette, and Silky Silver, which is unique to the SX. The Snow White Pearl and Aurora Black Pearl colours can also be had.
Inside, the cabin gets luxurious two-tone burgundy leather seats with wood grain garnish. The eight-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities remain, but rear passengers now benefit from two headrest-mounted screens, part of the Rear Entertainment System with WiFi connectivity.
Just like the EX, the standard six-speaker setup continues to be offered here, and the driver’s seat still features 12-way power adjustability. However, the front passenger seat is also powered, and there’s a new sliding centre console tray in the second row – both features unique only to the SX. Other standard features include powered sliding rear doors, heated steering wheel, keyless entry with start and rear-view camera.
For propulsion, motivation comes from the same 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 190 hp at 3,800 rpm and 440 Nm of torque at 1,750 to 2,750 rpm. This is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
As with all Kia cars sold in Malaysia, the Grand Carnival comes with a five-year/unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty and the company’s ‘Value 5’ smart financing package. Find out what we think of the 5.1-metre-long eight-seater in our video review below. Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Hot selling KIA now comes with Tiger Nose grille + chrome pins~~
For those who cannot afford this you can always buy the pregio…
Why Naza Kia cannot sell the grand carnival at top RM150K-RM160K? RM160K for entry level is quite high.
At least this is new MPV. Not recond MPV like estima & alphard.
Ppl still hungry for Vellfire / alphard reconds because of gaya. (And its a Toyota).
KIA tak ada tunjuk bahawa awak “kaya” (btw i like Kia cars, especially the Stinger). No offense. You know lah Malaysians.
Habisla Serena baru, kimchi pun boleh bagi 8 seats.
Toyota Innova orso bagi seating up to 8 people (2-3-3 layout).
Innova ladder frame. Ancient dinosar. Carnival and Serena proper MPV but this can seat 8 pipu.
Shit, I want two captain seats on second actually.
The 8 seater is so like school bus :(
2nd row is kapten seats lol. Plus 1 middle foldable seat.
Those are not proper captain seats la, At best, poor man captain.
No left / right hand rest, no extended for lower thigh.
XO seats then. Hahaha! I alwiz thought kapten seats r individual seating arrangements.
For RM189k, the cabin gets luxurious 2-tone burgundy leather seats with wood grain garnish & tons of SPACE. What else U want ??! If that is Not enuff, it also come on-the-road with insurance.
Kia Carnival CKD @ Naza Ria used to be around 100k. Now the replacement model even in CKD is so expensive. Wonder why.
Kia of old were spec like shiet, material quality like shiet, and build quality even worse. Now everything up, so price must up lor.
Well said. Was so proud owning a Waja to my neighbor Kia Spectra, now Kia left P1 in dead.
U get what u pay lor. Spectra last time was priced at Waja level so same same quality. But now Cerato price at Perdana2 level, but Perdana2 better quality, refinement, drive, space, gadgets. So P1 at same price with Kia now is even better than b4.
Not anymore, Geely will improve it!
Cheap..affordable.
don’t complaint if you can’t afford to buy…this KIA carnival with its specifications is cheaper than its rivals…MAZDA 8,SMAX,SHARAN,ESTIMA,ALPHARD,VELLFIRE,STAREX…does not matter whether it is CBU or CKD ..even the URVAN is not that cheap…
What about exora?..hah checkmate..
nobody would stop u from buying an exora if fits your requirement…
Exora is 7 seater, this carnival is 8
All these additional spec should have been in the EX and with the old price.
Will consider when they give 50k discount
I am ok with 30k discount, Ha !
where the e-parking brake..??
why not the FL…??
I don’t know why but this MPV doesn’t look as grand as the vellfire or oddessy.
carnival is both bigger and cheaper than vellfire/odysey
The Starex is cheaper and bigger than Vellfire. And more torquey (diesel) engine than even the 3.5L v6. But loses out to gaya. Sadly.
waiting for 22k discount like the Sorento HS, if 30k lagi best
nice, but it does reminds a lot of the peugeot 5008
i’m really interested with KGC.. but i quite worry about service and spare part.. its spare part easy to get it ..any body can give me opionons
I can give you onion.
