SPYSHOTS: G01 BMW X3 gets spotted in Malaysia

Well, well, what do we have here? It looks like BMW Malaysia is gearing up to introduce the new G01 BMW X3 after this covered unit was spotted by paultan.org reader CM Chai. The successor to the second-generation F25 first celebrated its global debut back in June 2017, and Danny Tan already had a go in one in Portugal.

The large kidney grilles are a big giveaway that this is the new model, and they appear to be flanked by standard full-LED headlights rather than adaptive units. A lack of sensors/cameras beside the rear view mirror also seem to indicate that the BMW Driving Assistant Plus suite of safety and driver assist systems will not be available.

The camouflage applied on this car attempts to mask the styling package fitted, but based on our observation, it looks like this X3 comes with the Luxury Design kit and a set of 19-inch LMR double-spoke Style 696 wheels. Highlights of the kit include chrome side window trim and grille slats, plus silver skid plates, side mouldings and fog lamp enclosure trim.

No word on the powertrain used for this G01 X3, but expect it to be the sDrive20i that consists of a 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder (184 hp/290 Nm) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The F25 currently on sale here is also offered with as the oil burning xDrive20d, but it isn’t confirmed if the variant will be listed for the new model.

We’ll have more details about the G01 X3 as they are presented to us, but for now, are you looking forward to the model’s arrival? Will you prefer it to other competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo XC60?

Check out Fitra Eri’s first impression review of the Indonesian G01 X3 on Oto Driver. Looks similar to the X3 pictured here in Malaysia, with same (ugly looking to me) rims and same luxury line specs. Their X3 is CKD. So is there a possibility that our X3 is straight to CKD as well? Assuming we are following the Indonesian car, we might get the 20i engine (sadly no 30i) with XDrive. Fitra mentions predictive gearshift and variable sports steering. Sounds like things that might get omitted from Malaysian specs. Interesting thing is the leather used there, which is the new Vernasca, which is a grade above Dakota, but below nappa. Anyways, looks like the new X3 is set to come here soon. Design wise, I prefer the XC60. But the BMW should be the more fun to drive.

    sDrive? XC60 has AWD.
    184HP/290nm? XC60 get 250HP/350nm with T5 model NOT T8

Price will be the same or +- 15k
previously they show X2… failed… totally failed.
plz don’t repeat again same case.

I’m really really seriously wait for this car. with minimum spec with xDrive30i 252PH/350nm

That will be competitive or winner of D-segment SUV.
