In a world where excess is increasingly becoming the norm, it seems even Lexus is considering cashing in on the trend with a high-performance F-badged SUV. Lexus vice president for product planning and strategy, Cooper Ericksen told Motor1 that an F-badged SUV is an “active conversation” among folks within the firm.
To be more specific, executive vice president and chief engineer, Chika Kako said the Lexus UX, which is the brand’s latest and smallest crossover, has the potential to join the F family as a high-output petrol-hybrid. Nothing is set in stone, of course, but it’s something worth keeping in mind.
Meanwhile, Ericksen said Lexus is continuously evaluating what the F-badged SUV might emphasise for the brand. Will it be an off-road beast to take on the Land Rovers, or an on-road product? “[What] we’re currently trying to figure out is [if] the on-road performance aspect [is] more important [for Lexus] to invest in than the off-road performance,” he said.
For now, it’s unclear what’s to be expected from Lexus. The rumour mill suggests three potential models – a high-performance hybrid Lexus UX, a boosted RX, or an off-road beast of an LX. What do you think?
