Kia XCeed Crossover – sleek SUV to debut on June 26

Kia is on a roll now, introducing SUVs after SUVs. The automaker is at it again, this time teasing an all-new SUV-coupe dubbed the XCeed Crossover. Kia calls it the crossover utility vehicle (CUV) and positions it as a sportier alternative to traditional SUVs.

The swept-back, coupe-like appearance of the XCeed is a product of the brand’s European design centre in Frankfurt, Germany. Its design was led by Kia Motors Europe’s VP of design, Gregory Guillaume. The elevated ride height and low hip point help give the car a sportier driving position than conventional SUVs.

Besides the more athletic look, Kia says the XCeed crossover will offer comparable levels of interior space and luggage capacity to Europe’s best-selling SUVs. Kia Europe boss Emilio Herrera said: “The sporty design and demeanour of the new Kia XCeed CUV makes it more innately desirable than many taller, larger SUVs. Yet it offers this without compromising on versatility, with its intelligent packaging achieving the cabin and storage space of an SUV in a sportier body and more compact footprint.”

While there are no technical details to accompany the teaser, it’s likely that the XCeed will share the same basic underpinnings as the Ceed. Engine options may include Kia’s 1.0 litre three-cylinder that offers 120 hp, the new 1.4 T-GDi turbo petrol with 140 hp, as well as the 1.6 litre turbodiesel that makes 115 hp. Expect the range-topping model to get the Ceed GT‘s 1.6 litre T-GDi petrol that makes 204 PS and 265 Nm. The new Kia XCeed will be revealed in full on June 26, 2019.

  • Less than an SUV, more like a jacked up hatchback.

  • why do they have to declare it as an SUV?
why can’t they just declare it as a hatchback so that we in Malaysia can enjoy cheaper road tax?

Why are cars nowadays called SUV but the ground clearance is not taller than my pencil?

  • As long any car with plastic side mouldings slapped on the wheel arches, they will call it an SUV. These marketing stunts just kills the segment.
