GIIAS 2019: A90 Toyota Supra launched in Indonesia – top 3.0L inline-six turbo, priced close to RM600k

The new Toyota Supra is coming to ASEAN in 2019. UMW Toyota Motor has said that the A90 will be reaching Malaysia this year, and the sports car was previewed for Thailand in March ahead of a 2019 debut. But Indonesia is first off the mark with an official launch, which just happened at the press day of the 2019 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

UPDATE: Full live gallery added

Here, the fifth-generation Supra – which is a platform-mate of the current G29 BMW Z4 – will be available with the top 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six with 340 PS and 500 Nm from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. BMW’s B58 engine is paired to a ZF eight-speed conventional automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. 0-100 km/h is done in just 4.3 seconds.

Elsewhere in the world, two other engine choices are available. In Japan, the A90 range starts with a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 197 PS and 320 Nm of torque from 1,450 to 4,200 rpm. The same engine is also available in a higher state of tune, producing 258 PS and 400 Nm from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm. These are essentially BMW engines in 20i and 30i specs, good for 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and 5.2 seconds, respectively.

While this is billed as a launch, the official price hasn’t been well, officially announced. Toyota Astra Motor says that the reborn icon’s price will be around the Rp 2 miliar (RM589,869) mark in the republic. Don’t expect the Supra to be priced much lower than this in Malaysia, where the BMW Z4 sDrive30i (258 PS/400 Nm) goes for RM457k.

To be more precise, don’t live in Malaysia if you like even normal cars.

Toyota Camry in US only US$22k. Fresh graduate in US earn US4800 per month

Toyota Camry in Malaysia is RM200k. Fresh graduate in Malaysia earn RM1883 per month (according to 2019 BNM figures)

Who says Malaysia car are most expensive? Even GTR is cheaper in Malaysia compared to Supra in Indonesia. So where is that guy that keep saying Malaysia cars are expensive? Mana itu orang?

I’m genuinely surprised to the bone. Z4 are the pricier and premium of the two. Why is supra upward of 600k when Z4 only costs 457k? This is incomprehensible stupidity. The Toyota never the more expensive elsewhere but in Asia…… Don’t toyota share platform to cut cost? Or cut throat?

So expensive. Better use the amount of money to buy 2nd hand italian supercar. More class, and definitely turns more head than this mutated-bmw

Seriously I can’t accept the new Supra design, especially the headlamp look really weird. If it selling RM600k in Malaysia I bet whoever drive this car will be most like test drive or showroom car rather than the real owner.

  • Yawn… hello BMW salesman, your comment is totally irrelevant and false. They may appear to have similar internals, and share bin parts, but Toyota have thoroughly reworked the donor’s engine and a result, power output is quite bit higher than in the Z4. There’s videos on youtube proving so.
