SPYSHOTS: Volkswagen ID. Crozz in production body

The pure-electric concept from Volkswagen we know so far as the ID. Crozz has been spotted testing on public roads, and will soon get a numerical name in the vein of the ID. 3 electric hatchback, according to our sources.

Based on the German automaker’s MEB electric vehicle platform, the production version of the ID. Crozz will get a dual electric motor powertrain with 306 hp and battery range of approximately 500 km. With power stored in an 83 kWh battery pack, the ID. Crozz is able to be charged to 80% capacity in 30 minutes with a 150 kW DC fast charger.

Here, we can see a few details productionised in the transition from ID. Crozz concept to road-going model; the concept’s C-shaped DRLs appear partly covered on the test mule here, while the conventional side mirrors are located on the front doors, and the rear sliding doors have made way for a conventional setup as well.

The development vehicle here also shows a more typical hatchback roofline in place of the sloping, coupe-like shape of the concept in order to free up more space for passengers and cargo. The interior of this production prototype has yet to be photographed, though the concept’s individual rear chairs and centre console will most likely make way for a conventional folding bench seat layout for utility.

It remains to be seen just how closely the production vehicle will stay to the ID. Crozz, though for reference the concept measures 4,625 mm long with a 2,773 mm wheelbase, 1,891 mm wide and 1,609 mm tall, with 515 litres of luggage capacity inside.

With the aforementioned electric hatchback set to be the first of the German company’s ID range to reach markets in 2020, the productionised ID. Crozz could follow suit shortly after, with the ID. Buzz equivalent set for release in 2022.
