At long last, the third-generation Volvo S60 has been launched in Malaysia, and customers will be offered in a sole T8 Twin Engine R-Design variant. For now, early units will be fully imported (CBU), with local assembly set to start later on – identical price and specifications as mentioned here. The redesigned sedan was first revealed in June last year, and competes against models like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.
Price-wise, you’ll be paying RM295,888 (on-the-road without insurance), which includes a five-year/120,000-km factory warranty. The S60 is available with a choice of five colours, including Fusion Red, Crystal White, Birch Light, Onyx Black and Pebble Grey. It should also be noted that the S60 has a rather long service interval of 20,000 km.
Like the S90, the latest S60 rides on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform but carries a more dynamic and sporty design. Obvious cues that identify it as a distinctively Volvo product include the signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED DRLs at integrated into full-LED headlamps and “E 3-style” LED taillights.
For our market, the S60 is dressed in R-Design trim, which consists of an aggressive front bumper featuring a larger lower intake and blacked-out fog lamp enclosures. The same black treatment is also applied on the pin-like mesh insert for the grille, which gets a silver surround.
Down the sides, you’ll find black window surrounds and side mirror caps as well as a set of 19-inch five triple-spoke diamond cut/matte black alloy wheels shod with 235/40 series tyres. A pair of trapezoidal-shaped exhaust outlets can be found in the rear, highlighted by a body-coloured trim in the lower apron of the bumper.
Inside, the dashboard layout isn’t that dissimilar to the S90, with a large, portrait-oriented nine-inch touchscreen placed front and centre, flanked by vertical air vents. This is linked to a Sensus Connect infotainment system, with audio playback handled by a Harman Kardon 14-speaker, 600-watt sound system.
Beside the primary screen is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display and an R-Design three-spoke steering wheel, while the centre console remains familiar, accommodating the gear lever, engine start switch, drive mode selector, electronic parking brake switch and auto hold button.
Other standard equipment includes R-Design seats trimmed in Charcoal black Nappa leather/Nubuck fabric, Metal Mesh dash inlays, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, Park Assist Pilot, a 360-degree around view monitor, powered front seats with memory function, R-Design pedals and gear lever as well as keyless entry and start.
As the variant name suggests, the S60 we get comes with the T8 Twin Engine AWD powertrain that consists of a Drive-E 2.0 litre supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque, a crankshaft-integrated starter/generator (CISG) and an Aisin-sourced AW TG-81SD eight-speed automatic transmission.
While the internal combustion engine drives the front wheels, an electric motor drives those at the rear, providing 87 hp and 240 Nm for a total system output of 407 hp and 640 Nm. With this powertrain, the S60 will complete the century sprint in just 4.4 seconds, hit a top speed of 250 km/h and has a rated fuel consumption of two litres per 100 km. The variant rides on the Dynamic Chassis with passive damping.
Powering the electric motor is an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that is located in the transmission tunnel, providing an EV range of up to 49 km. As a plug-in hybrid, there’s an onboard 3.7 kW charger, which can be plugged into charging stations via a Type 2 connection – it’ll take about three hours for a full charge with an outlet that puts out 3.7 kW or more.
As this is a Volvo, the list of safety and driver assistance systems is pretty comprehensive, and includes six airbags (front, side and curtain), City Safety (autonomous emergency braking), Lane Keeping Aid, Front & Rear Collision Warning & Mitigation Support, Driver Alert Control (DAC), Run-Off Road Mitigation and Cross Traffic Alert, among others.
We’ve already had a chance to try out the all-new Volvo S60, and you can read our review of the sedan here. Find full specifications of the S60 on CarBase.my.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with myTukar.
LMAO rip Arteon
0-100 km/h in 4.4s , slower than my ride 0.2s
good luck. Wondering how many unit can it sell. If it price at VW Passat price, may be can capture 5% of benz sales.
You’re not their target market, you can’t understand how this car’s specs and pricing gonna effect 330i and c class’s sales to drop. I owned a merc and audi and used to own a beamer. I understand this price placement will definitely shake the German rivals to their core.
What a joke VW Passat competing with Volvo.
Passat definitely a big NO, NO endless gearbox problems and worst money pit RV compare to Volvo.
Arteon? RIP BMW 330i !
Gotta say it’s bang for buck
On paper, the price and performance seems unbeatable , plus its a CBU car
Summore its same priced as Volvo S90 2.0 T8
Hi bro,
When u get S90 T8 with that price? if im not mistaken s90 t8 around RM367k..and t5 is RM339k..
This is just brilliant!
How much lithium-ion battery replacement cost?
RM 45K
Is this correct or just your guess?
Just continue drive without the batteries lo. you still have 320hp from the petrol engine.
Ya but, also 200kg more weight…. :(
(Like) 3 Series and S60
(Dislike) C Class
Heard that the climate control is in the touch screen display.
Holy cow it does the 0-100 in 4.4secs! That’s as quick as a 340i and the Audi S4 is slower! Looks like Volvo won’t be lowering the price for the CKD units later either. Hmmm..
Pricing is very reasonable for a full cbu. Wait till the ckd arrives, i bet cars like the C200 would go out of business.
RIP G20
Malaysia spec are quite poor….no crystal gear knob, no yellow seat belt, no brembo brakes, no adjustable absorber, no polestar specs….
Crystal gear knob is reserved for Inscription trim. Yellow seat belt, brembo brakes etc are reserved for Polestar trim.
What we get here is R Design trim and we get almost all R Design goodies, which is not poorly specced at all by Volvo Malaysia.
I believe that is the Polestar trim, which is different from R design trim here.
You want Polestar you go buy Polestar variant. This is the R-Design variant.
….and BMW has what safety features? Care to elaborate?
i dont think this kid is a bmw fan. just a kid thrashing bmw name
Volvo no value compared to mercedes…thats why their fanbase are blind until their favourite brand broke when maintenance due.
Mercedes is also well know as .money pit. Could not imaging the resale value of Mercedes is also the worst compare to some Volvo models.
VW Arteon has been previewed in Malaysia for almost a year, yet we still don’t know when it’s going to be available in Malaysia. Volvo just teased the S60 for a month or two, and now they are already launched. Good work from Volvo for being quick and decisive.
This. Is. Freaking. Amazing. Well done VCM, very very well done.
Supercar beater
Those type-r wannabe, don’t mess with this volvo!
Not a single option box left unticked for this one. A huge slap to the face to all the tin kosong competitors *cough* 330i *cough* Very very well done Volvo !!!
wAH…. So many volvo cybertrooper here
bargain!
4.4s at 300k….. Bargain …
This is M car and AMG level of performance but with a much lower price point, really value for money.
The king of on paper promises. Volvo for life….because you cant sell it.
Belakang lekat Lotus R & H logo, komform hot sell. :p
20000 kms service, hmmmmmmmmmm…..in this weather and condition, lets wait and see
seems like an insane value for money, no doubt it will be more attractive pricing wise when it’s launched as a CKD here. On the other hand, I wouldn’t wanna own a turbo, supercharged PHEV car out of warranty
It’s simply because of performance. Otherwise, this is an ugly crab rear looking luxury car. Dashboard also looks uncle. But with good materials it’s still acceptable to some extent.
4.4s. Interior not sporty but done this way. Doesn’t match at all.
How many rich uncle want to speed like sports cars. 8secs is more than sufficient even revving up to genting. Comfort and Looks is priority, for long term satisfaction. BMW 320i 2011 2.0NA did 9.7s to 100km/h, top speed 218km/h.
Well.. it’s something to show off. 4.4secs. But-
China EV doing 3.9s 600km range 1.93m wide.
gac aion LX80D – rivalling to TeslaX. Only sub rm170k at China. Looks much better than uncle S60 50km PHEV.
I guess you are a BMW fan but only can afford to buy the 2011 320i model you mentioned. Pity you don’t know much else about car trends though even though this website is supposed to educate all readers. How can you compare a full China EV to this S60 PHEV? If you want to compare to full EV you have to reference to the XC40 Recharge.
Rich uncles would not mind spending for speed and if they have all safety features checked, it would be better.
Unfortunately, BMW Malaysia didn’t think that Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is important for it’s owners so they can make more profit from the selling price..
Volvo is just not sellable here and Asia. I have yet to see one s90 on the road. Smart and affordable buyers will go for Germans. Even Passat is a better can than Volvo.
its true that volvo doesnt sell as well here in Asia, but the facts are they’re selling a whole lot more today than they used to and Malaysia included.
Rich uncle buy fast car for the option to go fast when they feel like it. I rarely drive fast even though my car has 362hp.
P.S e90 320i was one of the most underpowered cars I ever drove, do yourself a favor and buy the 2011 320d instead
This car is almost 500kg heavier than it competitor, not sure how good is the handling.
>400hp S60 T8-R (Brand New) <rm300k.
This car here costs more than the c43 amg in the UK. But here in Malaysia…
407hp 4.4secs.. wow.. but still need to give way to Myvi on highway fast lane.
volvo is listening to consumers….malaysians prefer the sporty trim
What about laser intelligent lighting?
Fuel cons 2liters for 100kms is a joke.
No concerns on price of battery replacement?
The only downside is the half leather seats
habislah perodua. game over with game changing proton
