Ford Ranger Splash – all 19 units booked on Lazada

Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) has announced that all 19 units of the limited edition Ford Ranger Splash have been pre-booked ahead of Lazada’s 11.11 Shopping Festival. The special pick-up truck was exclusively available on the online shopping platform through the Ford Official store on LazMall.

According to SDAC, the Ranger Splash was the first pick-up truck to be sold via e-commerce and the first vehicle in the country to be sold via Lazada’s “Chup Dulu” function. Customers only had to pay a non-refundable deposit of RM139, which is 10% of the RM1,389 booking fee. The remainder of RM1,250 will have to be paid on November 11 to secure the booking.

Once the final booking fee payment has been made, the full amount of RM1,389 is refundable, should customers change their minds. SDAC’s managing director, Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz said Malaysians consumers have embraced e-commerce and added that Ford customers can look forward to more exciting programmes in the coming future.

To recap, the Ford Ranger Splash is priced at RM138,888 on-the-road without insurance, and included in the price is a three-year or 100,000-km factory warranty and five-year or 100,000 free maintenance package. The special edition pick-up is based on the existing 2.0L XLT Plus Automatic variant, but gets blacked out and contrasted with fluorescent highlights.

Darkened exterior bits include the front grille, side mirror covers, rear bumper, sports bar, alloy wheels, fender flares, as well as a kangaroo bar. Other add-ons include a built-in toll reader and a 360-degree around view monitor – existing features such as HID projector headlamps with LED DRLs, eight-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, fabric upholstery, keyless entry and start, Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and an Easy Lift Tailgate are standard.

For engine, the 2.0L XLT Plus Automatic is powered by a 2.0 litre single-turbo four-cylinder diesel, offering 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque. Drive is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system with on-the-fly switching between 2WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low.

I guess people don’t mind parting with RM139 even though it’s non-refundable. Once they realized that Sime Darby is involved, they wouldn’t mind burning that money. Instead of getting real interest for this model translating into actual sales, maybe SDAC would think twice about selling through online platform again.
