2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300e Coupe now in Malaysia – 320 PS/700 Nm hybrid, 43km electric range, RM374k

Following teasers indicating its arrival, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially taken the wraps off the locally-assembled GLC 300e, the hybrid going on preview in the country earlier this morning at the launch of Hap Seng Star’s new Setia Alam facility.

Unlike Thailand, which introduced the X253 GLC 300e back in 2020, we’re only getting the Coupe version of the SUV, but the powertrain is identical for both body styles. Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine rated at 211 PS at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,200 rpm to 4,000 rpm.

Located between the engine and the nine-speed automatic gearbox is an electric motor, offering 122 PS and 400 Nm, and the entire system yields a total output of 320 PS and 700 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a 4Matic driveline, and performance specs for the electrified SUV include a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.7 seconds and a 230 km/h top speed.

Power for the electric drivetrain is supplied from a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers the car up to 43 km of EV range on the WLTP test cycle. The GLC 300e is capable of running at speeds of up to 130 km/h when operating in electric mode.

Charging takes five hours when plugged into a conventional domestic power socket at a rate of up to 1.8 kW (230 V, single-phase, 8 A), but a 7.4 kW wallbox brings this down to battery can be fully charged in 1.5 hours with a 7.4 kW wallbox.

Exterior-wise, the GLC 300e Coupe for our market features an AMG Line specification, along with a Night Package, and also larger front disc brakes. Standard fit items include MultiBeam LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist and 20-inch AMG five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Inside, there’s an AMG Line interior and leather upholstery, with an open-pore black ash wood centre console and light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim. The black ash for the centre console is the only difference to that found on the petrol GLC 300e, with the latter having a black piano lacquer finish.

Elsewhere, there’s Artico faux leather for the dashboard and door beltlines and Nappa leather for the multi-function sports steering wheel, and equipment includes the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system.

Safety-wise, driving assistance kit includes Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, a Parking Package with a 360° camera and Active Parking Assist with Parktronic. Finally, pricing. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e Coupe is priced at RM374,074 (on-the-road without insurance), the price being valid until the end of the sales tax exemption on June 30.

      • Resale value is low as a worn out batt costs more than 70k RM to replace (dealer cost before markup for end customer). And unless you are disciplined enough to charge your car every time you park, you might end up dragging dead weight when your hybrid batt runs out.

Don’t think a potential buyer spending circa-400k would be bothered by resale value, no? IMO anything costing higher than the low-spec 3-er/C-class wouldn’t have good “resale value”.

  • please go to test drive.. the noise from outside when cruising at 110km/h.. will deter you from buying it…

totally annoying, not worth the money for RM300k of car.. speaking from a GLC300 AMG driver…

Hybrids usually equals more power because of the electric motor and gas engine working together .But it also means higher servicing cost .All the money you save on fuel goes to the scheduled maintenance. So why bother
