UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has teased the new Camry on Toyota Malaysia social media, saying that the latest iteration of the D-segment icon will be unveiled at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 this week. “Icons never stay still. The next evolution is coming soon. Unveiling the next icon at KLIMS 2024, 5-11 Dec,” the caption for the above image reads.

The ninth-generation Toyota Camry was launched in Thailand last month following the model’s ASEAN debut in Singapore in August. The XV80 Camry has three variants in Thailand – Premium Luxury, Premium and the base Smart, which starts from 1.45 million baht (RM187,422).

As per markets like Australia and the US, the Thai-market gets a sole 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain, which centres on an Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with 186 PS and 221 Nm of torque from 3,600 rpm to 5,200 rpm. Drive goes to the front wheels via an e-CVT. The electric component is a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 100 kW and 208 Nm, and combined output is 227 PS.

Suspension consists of MacPherson struts in front and double wishbones at the rear. The Thai base variant rides on 17-inch wheels (215/55) while the upper two tiers come with 18-inch two-tone alloys (235/45). The Camry is the latest Toyota to get the ‘hammerhead’ grille seen on the Prius, Crown Sport and C-HR. There are C-shaped LED DRLs, mimicked by the taillights – like the new look?

Inside, the new horizontal-style dashboard gets two 12.3-inch screens (base meter panel is a 7.0-inch screen) and the option of a head-up display. The top Thai spec gets a nine-speaker JBL sound system, ventilated memory front seats (with courtesy function for driver), shift paddles, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charger and three-zone air con.

Coincidentally, the outgoing ‘Beautiful Monster’ Camry made its debut at the previous edition of KLIMS, which was six years ago in 2018. KLIMS 2024 opens to the public on December 5 – full details here.

not going to hope much because UMWT usually messes up the specs for their cars but i truly hope they don’t mess this one up. oh and please give us tan seats as an option (again this would only exist in an alternate reality where malaysians aren’t boring af and only want black on black on black) !!

  • Took them long enough to give a head unit screen that is not awkward with really thick bezel. Anyway it would be a little too late when large screen is becoming a standard feature in most cars at that price.

Toyota should have a Turbo engine option. Smaller cc with lower road tax

Hope Sime UMW get the pricing right. If it get it wrong, potential buyers now have many other options. Just for one example, Jaecoo Omoda C9 is only from RM185,000, with many unheard of features at that price point before. Be afraid, be very afraid Sime UMW!

If only it comes with Turbo engine and AWD, then can compete with Arteon.
