50% of new government cars are to be EVs by 2025

The yesterday-released Guidelines on the Transition of Government Vehicles to EVs stipulates that by 2025, 50% of new government cars are to be EVs, in line with the government’s green aspirations.

Drafted by the natural resources and environmental sustainability (NRES) ministry through the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation, the document was prepared together with technical expertise and stakeholders, comprising various ministries, departments and agencies as well as industries.

“This document details the transition strategy, which covers the current fleet inventory evaluation to identify operational requirements, electric vehicle selection, charging infrastructure planning and cost analysis as well as carbon emission reduction to ensure a systematic and effective transition, besides enhancing the agenda of environmental sustainability.

“In addition to that, the aspects of safety, monitoring, reporting and training also are a priority to guarantee a seamless transition,” said NRES minister Nik Nazmi as reported by Bernama.

The just-launched Proton eMas 7 is almost a given, we’re sure, but which other EVs do you think are best for government use? Suggest away in the comments.

I disagree with changing to expensive EVs. All ministers and gov SERVants to drive around in Myvi, Alza, Saga and kapcai like the majority . Uplift everyone’s standard of living then they can also upgrade. Baru ada insentif utk majukan negara

  • All government servants should take public transport, except those with severe mobility disability. Then only you can see better infrastructure upgrades.

    Stop unnecessary spending.
Buy only what u need and. U dont need EV for the sake of supporting the EV agenda when u r losing money and not gaining anything through it. Dont tell me the gomen need to ‘walk the talk’.
U really need to buy then go ahead and buy sensible vehicles for your fleet.
All the savings can be used to buy decent vehicles for enforcement agency and better equipment for our army….and yes of coz spend more to improve the nation.

The whole EV is a farce to dupe the rakyat and control them.. there is nothing great about EVs… all EV are heavier and the tyre wear and brake pad wear is greater…
