Volkswagen won’t introduce any new EVs for another year in 2025 – production ID.2all only due in 2026

According to a Bloomberg report, Volkswagen won’t release a new electric vehicle (EV) for another year in 2025, with key products being pushed back due to development delays. This only adds to the German automaker’s woes after it faced declining global sales and the prospect of closing factories in 2024.

The lack of a new EV this year is an issue for Volkswagen, especially since it is struggling to compete against competitors like BYD in China, which a key profit driver for the company as well as being the world’s largest automotive and EV market.

The most recent addition to Volkswagen’s EV line-up is the ID.7, which was introduced in 2023 to join the ID.3 and ID.4. The next new offering is the production version of the ID.2all concept due in 2026, which is the same year we can expect to see a joint venture SUV developed with Xpeng, a company that Volkswagen has invested in.

Other models include the Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pick-up truck, which will use Rivian’s zonal electrical architecture – Volkswagen has money invested in the American company. Looking further forward, the next-generation electric Golf isn’t expected until 2029, which is three years after the ID.2all and nearly a decade after the ID.3 and ID.4.

I remember around decade ago so many Malaysians aspire to own a VW one day. Much has changed since then
