BMW 3 Series driver seen in viral video sideswiping motorcyclist after overtaking in a dangerous manner

A driver of a BMW 3 Series sideswiped a motorcyclist after overtaking other cars in a dangerous manner, with the entire incident being captured in a dashcam video that has gone viral on social media.

Based on the timestamp, the incident took place on March 17, 2025 at about 12:22am. At the start of the video, the recording vehicle is seen moving from the right to the middle lane, presumably to allow the 3 Series to overtake.

After the 3 Series enters the frame, it then proceeds to cut across to the leftmost lane, passing a Honda City and Perodua Alza before coming up behind a motorcyclist. The offending car then switches to the middle lane that is occupied by a Proton Perdana.

Attempting to overtake the Perdana (on the left lane, mind you) and unaware (or not noticing) that the motorcyclist is close by, the driver of the 3 Series swerves and takes out the motorcyclist before coming to a stop by the side of the road.

As a reminder, “zig-zag” overtaking (weaving through traffic dangerously) is an offence that violates Section 42(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 which involves driving dangerously and recklessly. If convicted, the driver can be imprisoned for up to five years as well as be fined not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000. With a second or subsequent conviction, you can face a prison term not exceeding ten years and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM20,000.

Additionally, under Section 42(3), a person convicted shall be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than two years. This increases to 10 years with a second or subsequent conviction.
