2025 BMW M2 launched in Malaysia – uprated S58 engine, now with 480 PS, 600 Nm; priced from RM651k

The second-generation (G87) BMW M2 received an update in June last year, and this has now made its way to Malaysia. Making its launch debut at today’s My BMW World, the junior two-door M coupe benefits from a punchier powertrain while retaining the same equipment as the pre-update model.

Under the bonnet, the S58 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine continues to be of service, albeit now tuned to deliver 480 PS (473 hp or 353 kW) at 6,250 rpm – an increase of 20 PS (20 hp or 15 kW).

Meanwhile, peak torque is up 50 Nm to 600 Nm from 2,650 to 6,130 rpm, all sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. With the added grunt, the M2’s 0-100 km/h sprint time is reduced by 0.1 seconds to four seconds, and the top speed remains at 250 km/h.

Other driving-related features carried over include adaptive M suspension, an M Sport differential, M Compound brakes with callipers painted in high-gloss red and the highly configurable M Drive Professional drive mode system.

In terms of kit, the M2 comes with staggered M light-alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, all in a double-style Style 930 M silver design. These are joined by an M Lights Shadowline package, M Carbon roof and M high-gloss Shadowline package. The pre-update M2 had the Pro Package, which meant its Shadowline package came with extended contents that is absent for the latest model.

Inside, there are redesigned centre air vents with joystick-like controls, with the rest of the dashboard remaining as per before. You get the same M Sport seats, carbon-fibre interior trim finishers, Vernasca leather upholstery, M seatbelts, an anthracite headliner, illuminated door sills, three-zone climate control, comfort access, powered front seats (with driver’s side memory function), ambient lighting and a wireless charging tray.

Also brought over are the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen displays that form Live Cockpit Professional, Connected Package Professional with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, adaptive LED headlamps and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The updated M2 retails for RM650,800 with a two-year warranty, or RM693,100 with the optional five-year extended warranty and service package. For context, the previous M2 that came with the Pro Package was RM623,800 (two-year warranty) or RM666,100 (extended warranty and service), so you’re looking at quite a big price increase of RM27,000.
