It’s been a while since we checked on the Geely Haoyue, the Proton X90‘s Chinese twin. Recently, Autohome reported that the latest version, the Haoyue L, is set to be facelifted soon, thanks to a filing on the ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) website.
Compared to the current model introduced in December 2022, the changes are mild, consisting of a frameless version of the octagonal waterfall grille and chrome L-shaped front bumper corners. The rest is as per its predecessor, which sports sharp LED projector headlights joined by a full-width chrome bar, reshaped chrome door rubbing strips, segmented full-width taillights (similar to the Binyue L/facelifted Proton X50), a number plate moved from the bumper into the tailgate, and a black rear valance with twin tailpipes.
No details on the interior, but the existing Haoyue L has already been completely redesigned with full-width air-con vents, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, a 14.6-inch “floating” infotainment touchscreen and a new centre console with a smaller gear selector next to twin cupholders arranged fore and aft. The same dashboard was used on the related Riddara RD6 electric pick-up.
The big news, however, is under the bonnet. According to the filing, the Haoyue L is set to receive the BHE15-EFZ 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque, likely sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This should complement the 218 PS/325 Nm 2.0 litre turbo four-pot that replaced the 181 PS/300 Nm 1.8 litre unit in the original Haoyue.
Could the facelift make its way onto the X90 here? It seems likely, given that Proton will soon replace its 177 PS/255 Nm 1.5 litre turbo three-cylinder (equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system in the X90) with the BHE15 across its entire lineup, so the seven-seater should receive the new mill sooner rather than later. Perhaps we’ll see the car next year, replete with an in-house-designed interior.
By the way, the Haoyue L also received a six-seater Premium Edition back in October, equipped with a ginormous front grille that takes up the entire front end, as well as a redesigned front bumper, 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and suede upholstery. This variant, however, will probably remain a China exclusive.

So far I have still not seen the 1.5L TGDi 4cyl with Hybrid tech and since our X90 hybrid achieve 190 PS and 300 Nm and the latest 4cyl only achieve 181 PS and 290 Nm this would be a downgrade.
But hey Malaysia is the only country that have the Boyue/X70 with 1.5L TGDi 3cyl without hybrid so what gives.
But X90 “hybrid” more thirsty
Than a Nissan Serena so
The latter sells better
Was hopping to see the PHEV coming but think of the usual pricing strategy, very unlikely will be competitive anyway…
If only the pricing could be lowered by 20k spec by spec would be more interesting and sell better
Salesman : Last time when all japanese cars using timing chain but campro remained with cam belt, we were trained to poing out timing belt is better. Whe. proton inspira launched, we were instructed to say timing chain also good.
When perodua cars mostly 3 cylinder engines, proton salesman were given bullets to condemn 3 cylinders
Then Geely gave 3 cylinder engines, we had to persuade prospect buyers that 3 pot engines alao good.
Now back to 4 inline? Aiyaa.. die la like this.
I was hoping for awd version.
wow..i would buy this x90
After new x50 launch with 4 cylinder timing chain engine, other model s70, x70, x90 lagi nobody buy if not change new engine.
Make sense. Proton difficult too keep using more engine drivetrain model. Variants perhaps.
The way I see X90 is that it has small volume market locally. It is not big enough to catch Alphard market and it is too close to X70. Since msian market is small, proton will have issues with frequent facelift or upgrades. Part supplier especially local sourced will hv issues with volume and price will shoot up. Either proton aggressively sell this model overseas or minimise local content or adaptation for this specific model
