Isuzu Malaysia has announced that its D-Max pick-up truck remains the second best-selling model (behind the obvious market leader, the Toyota Hilux) in the one-tonne segment for the first half of the year. The company sold 3,081 vehicles over the past six months – mainly driven by strong demand in the first quarter – for a market share of 16%.
As expected, models equipped with the base 1.9 litre Ddi BluePower turbodiesel engine make up the lion’s share of sales, accounting for 85.8% of the overall figure. The highest-spec 1.9 litre model, the Premium 4×4 A/T, is among the top sellers of the range, which also saw the debut of the Low Ride model in February.
“The results achieved this year reaffirms the trend we have observed since last year when pick-up truck enthusiasts and passenger car converts alike have discovered the benefits of owning and driving these highly capable Isuzu D-Max trucks,” said CEO Tomoyuki Yamaguchi. “We hope to continue appealing our product benefits in the second half of the year while ensuring positive experiences for our customers.”
According to COO Kenichi Kudo, Isuzu Malaysia will be focused on expanding its presence beyond its showrooms in the second half of the year, providing “immersive experiences” to reach more potential customers.
The company will also likely be working on bringing in the latest 2.2 litre Ddi MaxForce engine to replace the 1.9 litre mill. Sporting a high-flow lubrication system and a high-swirl combustion chamber to improve combustion efficiency, the new oil-burner makes 163 PS and 400 Nm of torque (up 13 PS and 50 Nm) and is claimed to offer a 10.7% reduction in extra-urban fuel consumption. It’s mated to an also-new eight-speed Rev Tronic automatic transmission, replacing the outgoing six-speeder.

85% of the sales is the 1.9..and yet.. All you guys review is the 3.0…most want to know about the 1.9 not the 3.0
The 1.9L Premium unfortunately has incomplete ADAS. The product planning not that good. Maybe when they launching the new 2.2P engine, they should equip the premium version with complete ADAS and price it competitively close to what it is now.
Bring in the mu-x 2.2 4wd with complete Ada’s like in Australia.
In Indonesia, they have the mu-x 1. 9 4wd but no adas.
These D segment pickup
serves as comfortable robust 4×4 as company vehicles against rough road terrain and rough usage too,
Very important for playing it’s role for a Essential line economy.
Imagine if they bring 4×2 version of premium spec or X-Terrain. I’m sure more sales for Isuzu as not everyone want 4×4 version but want the high spec 4×2.
The current Dmax 4×2 auto plus is quite well equipped for 110k and is popular because it looks exactly like a 4×4. Funnily, other brands still not bringing in 4×2 High Rider with automatic despite there is demand in Msia.
