Initially appearing to be an Indonesian oddity, the Honda StepWGN is looking more and more likely to be offered to the rest of Southeast Asia, having been teased in Thailand ahead of the country’s Motor Expo on November 28. The mid-size MPV, still CBU fully imported from Japan, is set to battle rivals such as the C28 Nissan Serena e-Power.
As per its home market, the StepWGN will be offered exclusively in e:HEV hybrid form – presumably the same 2.0 litre version as Indonesia. There, the car is powered by a 184 PS/315 Nm electric motor, with the 145 PS/175 Nm petrol engine acting as a generator and performing occasional driving duties at higher speeds thanks to a clutch.
For the uninitiated, the StepWGN is in its sixth generation, with the latest version being the first to be offered officially in Thailand since 2012. It features a clean, boxy design that dispenses with its predecessor’s cool Waku Waku Gate tailgate-integrated side-opening door.
The horizontal design theme continues inside with a straight bottom window line that runs all around the car, improving outward visibility. The seven seats are configured in a 2-2-3 configuration, with the second-row captains chairs available with ottomans and able to be slid all the way forwards and back. The raised third row is split 50:50 and can, of course, be stowed into the boot floor to create a flat load bay.
Expect the StepWGN to be priced around the same level as it is in Indonesia, where it retails at 629,000,000 rupiah (RM115,800/1,221,000 baht). That would put it below its also imported-from-Japan rivals such as the Serena, which costs a whopping 1,690,000 baht (RM215,900).
Could the StepWGN be coming to Malaysia next? Honda Malaysia is certainly not shy to bring in Japanese-market models, including the previous-generation Odyssey. However, the car will be up against more serious competition over here, as the new Serena (any minute now, ETCM) is expected to be CKD locally assembled and thus cheaper.

Launched in Thailand, what does it have to do with Malaysia? Why do you always ask questions in your title, you are the source of automotive news not me.
Indeed. Clearer with:
“Honda Stepwgn set to launch in Thailand, 2nd Asean Debut after Indonesia”
Honda need this, when the BR-V couldnt compete.
1.5H-EV can support the lost of BR-V.
Oh dear god, another Fridge on wheels….horror, remind me of the proton Juwara.
because cube shape offers most amount of space , its the most practical efficient use of space for the given footprint.
I realised as well that whenever we quote South East Asia, our Paultan reporters conveniently forget that Singapore is a SEA country. They have officially imported Stepwgn, Toyota Noah and all the unusual JDM oddity like the latest gen Sienta or Yaris Cross yet whenever launches happening Indonesia or Thailand those are always quoted as first in SEA.
Singapore car price with COE,
Will you be happy to get informed about this?
similarly when we report “lowest petrol prices” in SEA, we always remove Brunei, as if Brunei isn’t our immediate neighbour.
Malaysia just don’t hold your breath unless it’s ckd it has to fight with parallel importers.
so cheap only RM115,800. in malaysia the CRV with identical hybrid drivetrain priced at 180k, malaysians look with envy at neighbour cheap car prices.
please bring it in instantly, with latest ehev technology and lane watch, we are going to slaughter chinamen
bring it in and priced at RM200k above accord, slaughter? suicide more likely
If im being completely honest? Im done being scammed by the Japanese, for that much money for such a sub par offering i’d rather get a zeekr
since when zeekr offers a 7-seat sliding-door mpv?
the 009 perhaps?
009 costs RM300k , its in a totally different price category compare to honda stepwagaon .
Just make it CBU from Indonesia if CKD unable to justify the ROI, but CKD should be able to offer a very good price tag that can undercut a lot competitors.
This current Stepwgn design is boring compared to the previous generation… YAWN
This is just an elongated Kenari…
