Toyota Yaris Cross Nightshade launched in Thailand – black design touches; 111 PS 1.5L hybrid; RM117k

The Toyota Yaris Cross is now available in a new Nightshade variant in Thailand. Priced at 919,000 baht (about RM117k), the Yaris Cross Nightshade is the most expensive version of the B-SUV on sale in the kingdom and adopts a similar aesthetic as the Yaris Ativ Nightshade launched there last year.

Using the range-topping HEV Premium Luxury as a base, the Nightshade adds on what is essentially a black pack, with various parts finished in the dark hue. These include the 18-inch alloy wheels, side mirrors, rear spoiler, roof rails, rocker panels as well as the trim on the windows and rear bumper.

Unique to the Nightshade is the ‘Metro Stylish’ front grille that sports a thick bar across the mesh insert. Meanwhile, the interior continues the theme with many surfaces, including the seats, receiving a black finish. These changes come at a 20,000 baht (RM2.5k) over the HEV Premium Luxury, and customers can choose from Cement Gray Metallic and Platinum White Pearl as the primary body colour, both paired with a black roof.

No changes to the mechanical bits, with the hybrid system continuing to feature an E20-compliant 2NR-VEX 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine making 91 PS (90 hp or 67 kW) and 121 Nm of torque. This is paired with an E-CVT to drive the front wheels, augmented by an electric motor rated at 80 PS (79 hp or 59 kW) and 141 Nm for a combined system output of 111 PS (110 hp or 82 kW). The Yaris Cross in Thailand is claimed to deliver up to 26.3 km per litre.

Standard kit matches that of the HEV Premium Luxury and includes LED exterior lighting, synthetic leather upholstery, a 10.1-inch touchscreen head unit, a six-speaker sound system, a wireless charging pad, a panoramic roof, a hands-free powered tailgate, a panoramic view monitor, six airbags and Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite.
