Which variant to buy

Most private buyers should choose the 2.2L 4x4 AT Standard (RM122,171), the least-cost five-seat D-MAX combining AWD and an automatic. The 2.2L 4x2 Auto Plus (RM114,671) suits road work, while the 2.2L 4x4 MT Standard (RM114,171) is the cheaper five-seat AWD route. Single-cab users can choose the 2.2L MT (RM103,121), 3.0L MT (RM108,888) or 2.2L AT (RM109,121). Pay RM141,821 for the 2.2L Premium, RM145,138 for the 3.0L Premium or RM162,938 for the X-Terrain only after checking their equipment lists; the 3.0L has 187 hp against 161 hp.

Verdict

The D-MAX’s broad line-up is its strength: there are single-cab manual and automatic work trucks, a rear-wheel-drive automatic, and five-seat AWD choices with two diesel outputs. The 2.2L’s 1,756-km one-tank run gives fuel-conscious buyers a useful real-world reference point. Its starting price is higher than the Nissan Navara, JMC Vigus Pro and Mitsubishi Triton, so the entry-level D-MAX is not the cheapest way into this class.
