These outputs are sent to a six-speed automatic gearbox, and the driver can select 2WD high-range, 4WD high-range and 4WD low-range electronically from a rotary dial; a limited-slip differential is also present on the rear axle.

Braking hardware is by ventilated discs in front and drums at the rear, housed within 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 265/60 tyres. The spare tyre is a full size unit, also mounted on an alloy wheel.

As with its overall specification, there is also just one choice for interior upholstery in the Landtrek, this being black leatherette upholstery for the front and rear seats. Both front seats are equipped with six-way power adjustment and two-way lumbar support adjustment, while the rear bench gets a 60:40 split-folding layout with seat bases which also lift up.

For the driver, the steering wheel is a multi-function unit that is also trimmed in leather, while the steering column is adjustable for reach and rake (height) adjustment. Driver instrumentation features a 4.2-inch colour display flanked by analogue dials for the tachometer and speedometer, while infotainment is handled by a 10-inch touchscreen unit with voice command support, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Further connectivity options include Bluetooth for telephone and audio playback functions, with a further three USB ports for devices. Visual aids come courtesy of a surround view camera system, as well as distance and width guide lines for the reverse camera view.

Active safety aids include lane departure warning, hill descent control and hill start assist, while chassis stability programming consists of ABS, EBD with brake assist, stability control and anti-skid regulation.

Passive safety kit brings driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags as well as front and rear curtain airbags. Besides the all-new Kia Sorento, Bermaz Auto also previewed the Peugeot Landtrek, which will be distributed through local brand custodian Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAASB). The French-branded pick-up truck first made its debut in February 2020 and has been sighted in Malaysia before – its launch here will be the first in the Asia Pacific region.

Essentially a rebodied version of the Kaicene F70 developed by Chinese automaker Changan Automobile, the Landtrek is distinguished by its vertical grille bearing the Peugeot lion and distinctive LED daytime running light signature at the base of the reprofiled LED headlamps.

The two examples of the Landtrek on display at the preview are identical in specifications and equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, a sports bar, roof rails and a regular tailgate (no assist). Don’t mind the differing bed liners (or lack thereof on one of the units), as the company says all customer cars will come with one.

Inside, the Landtrek’s interior is pretty much a carbon copy of the Changan model, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s a rather stylish and car-like cabin, with elements that appear to be inspired by some Peugeot models. Highlights include a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support) a two-spoke steering wheel and even piano key-style switches on the centre stack.

Other items on the kit list are powered front seats, dual-zone climate control (with rear vents), a 360-degree camera, leather upholstery, a multi-info display, keyless entry and start, six airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, ASR (traction control), hill start assist, hill descent control and lane departure warning.

The Landtrek will only be offered in double-cab guise with power coming from a 1.9 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel making 152 PS (150 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. The only transmission option is a six-speed automatic that is paired with a part-time four-wheel drive system, which includes a rear differential lock.

As for pricing, the Landtrek is estimated to retail for RM123,000, and the pick-up truck comes fully imported (CBU) from China, where it is made at Changan’s plant in Shenzhen. In the competitive pick-up truck segment, would you pick the Landtrek over nameplates like the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50?

Peugeot Landtrek – new pick-up to enter market end-2020, meant for Africa and Latin America

Peugeot has announced the debut of its Landtrek pick-up. Intended for African and Latin American markets, the truck will be available in chassis cab, single-cab and double-cab body styles, and in petrol and diesel-powered versions.

The Landtrek isn’t the first one-tonne offering from the brand – in 2017, it introduced a pick-up based on the Dongfeng Rich for the sub-Sahara Africa region. This time around, the Landtrek shares its workings with the Changan Kaicheng F70, which was launched in China last November.

The automaker says that the Landtrek – which has undergone more than two million kilometres of testing in all weather conditions and terrain – is based on the fundamentals of the segment, and these include a 3.5 tonne towing capacity, versatility and good off-road capabilities as well as ease of repair.

It also has, according to its maker, the most sizeable cargo box in the segment, capable of handling two Euro-pallets in its double-cab form and three Euro-pallets with a single-cab example of the type, with loads of up to 1.2 tonnes possible on some versions. The cargo area features LEDs illumination and will allow users to connect accessories via a dedicated 12-volt socket.

The exterior design of the Landtrek, which tips the tape at 5.33 metres long in double-cab form (5.39 metres in single-cab guise), incorporates all the brand’s current styling codes, with a vertical grille featuring the lion in the centre and also vertical LED light signatures, but it’s the interior that provides the wows.

Inside, you’ll find a dashboard inspired by the brand’s 508 sedan, and interior kit includes a sporty two-spoke steering wheel, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, a 10-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment system with a 10 GB hard drive and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

Two front seating layouts are available, the first being a standard two independent seat configuration with a central armrest, and the other, a three-seater Multiflex bench seat, the latter providing for six passenger payload. With the Multiflex bench, the central and passenger backrests can be folded down to offer an armrest/work table or to load bulky objects weighing up to 75 kg.

Peugeot touts the novelty of the Landtrek’s rear seat bench, which can be completely folded down in a 60/40 split. When folded down, the backrests can support a load of up to 100kg. Elsewhere, other touted numbers are 27 litres of storage space in the cabin and seven handles in the passenger compartment to ease ingress and egress.

As for safety equipment, the list includes six airbags, ESP, Hill Descent Control, ASR on both 4×2 and 4×4 versions, Lane Departure Warning, Trailer Swing Control and two Isofix attachment points on the rear seats.

The Landtrek can be specified with up to four cameras to facilitate manoeuvring both in town and on the road. An off-road camera (in the passenger rear-view mirror) and 360° vision make it easier to negotiate obstacles or narrow trails, and can be set to automatically activate when obstacles are detected.

Engine options for the Landtrek, which is available in two- and four-wheel drive guise, are a 1.9 litre VGT diesel offering 150 hp and 350 Nm, paired with a six-speed Getrag manual gearbox, and a 2.4 litre turbocharged petrol unit with 210 hp and 320 Nm. The petrol mill gets a choice of two partnering transmissions, a six-speed Getrag manual or a six-speed Punch automatic with sequential, Sport and Eco modes.

A complete range of customised accessories will also be available for the Landtrek. Ranging from aesthetic add-ons such as a chrome roll bar to practical items such as thermoformed body protection and alarm, the list of options contain more than 40 items.

The Landtrek is set to make its market debut at the end of 2020, and will initially be introduced in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa before making its way to other markets. Europe, however, is not expected get the truck.
