DASH Highway

  • DASH highway toll rates announced – RM2.30 for Class 1 vehicles at all toll plazas from Dec 1, 2022

Projek Lintasan Damansara-Shah Alam Sdn Bhd has announced the toll rates for the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH), which will take effect from 12:01am on Thursday (midnight tonight), December 1, 2022.

The toll fare for Class 1 vehicles, which are vehicles with two axles and three or four wheels excluding taxis and buses, is RM2.30 for all toll plazas along the length of the highway, which are the Denai Alam, RRIM (Kwasa Damansara) and Kota Damansara toll plazas.

Meanwhile, Class 2 vehicles will be charged RM4.60 and Class 3 vehicles will be charged RM6.90 at the toll plazas along the DASH. For taxis and buses which are Class 4 and Class 5 vehicles, they will be charged RM1.20 and RM2.30, respectively.

Toll collection will be electronic, via Touch ‘n Go card, SmartTag and RFID. On the DASH, as with other highways, motorists are advised to ensure that they have sufficient credit in their Touch ‘n Go cards or eWallet.

The DASH opened to the public on October 14, when passage on the highway was announced to be free of charge until November 30, which is today. This highway spans a length of 20.1 km from Puncak Perdana to Penchala, or effectively 55.4 km long with the lengths of all interchanges tallied.

The main DASH passage has been touted to offer a travelling time of 30 minutes, or a full hour less than by using existing roads from each of the highway’s ends. There are a total of 13 interchanges along the DASH, and 90% of the highway is above ground and 10% on ground level.

This highway also features a first for Malaysian highways, which is a fully enclosed highway noise barrier running 260 m in length, and is located near the ‘Spaghetti Link’ near Empire City that links seven ramps from other existing highways such as the Penchala Link and the LDP.

  • DASH highway officially launched – 20.1 km stretch opens to public Oct 14, toll free until November 30

The new Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway, also known as DASH has officially been opened by Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings (Prolintas), and this comes after the highway operator opened the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) last month.

From its opening to the public from tomorrow, 12:01am on October 14, 2022, passage on the DASH highway will be free of charge until November 30, 2022.

In contrast to the SUKE that is being opened in stages, the DASH highway will be open to the public in its entirety once it has been officially opened. Like the SUKE however, the DASH is elevated, and the just-launched highway has 90% of its route above ground and 10% on ground level.

The following is a list of DASH highway interchanges:

    • Puncak Perdana
    • Alam Suria
    • Denai Alam
    • Kampung Melayu Subang
    • Pinggiran Subang
    • Subang Dua
    • Subang Airport
    • RRIM (Kwasa Damansara)
    • Surian
    • Seksyen 5 Kota Damansara
    • Sunway Damansara
    • Damansara Perdana
    • Penchala

Construction of the DASH began in August 2016, and its main sections were completed on September 30, 2022. The concession for DASH began on December 25, 2014 and will end on December 24, 2069 for a total concession period of 25 years.

As detailed in our pre-opening report, the DASH spans 20.1 km from Puncak Perdana to Penchala, or effectively 55.4 km long with the length of all interchanges tallied, the main DASH passage offers a travelling time of 30 minutes, or 60 minutes less than by using existing roads from each of the new highway’s ends.

A total of 13 interchanges feature along the DASH, from Puncak Perdana, Alam Suria, Denai Alam, Kampung Melayu Subang, Pinggiran Subang, Subang 2, Subang Airport, RRIM (Kwasa Damansara), Surian, Seksyen 5 Kota Damansara, Sunway Damansara, Damansara Perdana and Penchala.

These connect motorists with alternate paths to Persiaran Surian in Kota Damansara, Subang Airport, Damansara Perdana, Damansara, Penchala as well as for those heading into Kuala Lumpur. Future developments such as Kwasa Damansara and Elmina will benefit from the traffic dispersal facilitated by the DASH, as well as those along the route from Shah Alam to Damansara.

Other highways will also connect to the DASH, and these include the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), the Penchala Link and the Sprint Expressway. Each lane on the DASH is 3.5 metres wide, which collectively form its three-lane, dual carriageway design, joined by a three metre-wide emergency lane.

Average daily traffic on the DASH is expected to be 50,000 vehicles, and the new highway aims to relieve traffic along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari by 39%, along Jalan Sungai Buloh by 33% and along Persiaran Surian by 43%.

For facilities, the DASH will have two rest and service areas in both directions of the highway at the Denai Alam toll plaza (RSA Denai Alam). This is one of three toll plazas on the DASH, the other two being at RRIM (Kwasa Damansara) and at Kota Damansara. The Kwasa Damansara toll plaza will also feature lay-bys in both directions.

Equipment on the DASH includes 2,441 LED streetlights, 37 high-definition CCTVs, 18 emergency telephones, 30 vehicle incident detection system (VIDS) and 10 variable message signs (VMS). Additionally, the toll plazas along the DASH are unconventional in design in order to enable Prolintas to easily install a multi-lane free flow (MLFF) highway toll collection system.

Located near Damansara Perdana is a first for a Malaysian highway, a fully enclosed highway noise barrier that is 260 m in length. In its vicinity near Empire City is the ‘Spaghetti Link’, a coming together of seven ramps from other existing highways such as the LDP and the Penchala Link with the Penchala Interchange.

In addition to its primary objective of dispersing traffic, the DASH has also been developed to incorporate environmentally friendly initiatives such as solar panels and rainwater harvesting, along with green turf roofs for its toll plaza operations buildings for added eco-friendliness credentials.

  • DASH launching soon: 20.1 km Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway links Puncak Perdana-Penchala

Following the opening of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) last month, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings (PROLINTAS) will soon launch the new Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway, which is affectionately known as DASH.

The main line of DASH measures 20.1 km long and connects Puncak Perdana to Penchala, with a travelling time of just 30 minutes, 60 minutes less compared to using existing roads. With all interchanges factored in, the highway’s effective length is actually 55.4 km.

On that mention, DASH has a total of 13 interchanges, including at Puncak Perdana, Alam Suria, Denai Alam, Kampung Melayu Subang, Pinggiran Subang, Subang 2, Subang Airport, RRIM (Kwasa Damansara), Surian, Seksyen 5 Kota Damansara, Sunway Damansara, Damansara Perdana and Penchala.

These interchanges provide motorists with alternative routes to places like Persiaran Surian in Kota Damansara, Subang Airport, Damansara Perdana, Damansara, Penchala and towards Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, DASH can help disperse traffic for future developments in areas like Kwasa Damansara, Elmina and along the Shah Alam to Damansara.

The new highway’s connectivity also extends to other highways, namely the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) as well as the Penchala Link and SPRINT Expressway.

Like SUKE, DASH is an elevated highway, with 90% of its route being above ground, while the remaining 10% are on-ground. DASH also features a three-lane dual carriageway design, with each lane measuring 3.5 metres wide, and there’s also a 3-metre-wide emergency lane.

DASH is also unique as it features the first fully enclosed highway noise barrier measuring 260 metres in length near Damansara Perdana. Closer to Empire City, part of the highway makes up a nexus of overpasses dubbed the ‘Spaghetti Link’ that involves seven ramps from other existing highways like the LDP and Penchala Link with Penchala Interchange.

According to PROLINTAS, the expected average daily traffic is 50,000 vehicles and the highway is said to relieve traffic along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari by 39%, Jalan Sungai Buloh by 33% and Persiaran Surian by 43%.

In terms of facilities, DASH will feature two rest and service areas in both bounds at the Denai Alam toll plaza (RSA Denai Alam), which is one of three toll plazas, with the other two located at RRIM (Kwasa Damansara) and Kota Damansara. The RRIM (Kwasa Damansara) toll plaza will also have lay-bys in both directions.

The highway also features 2,441 LED streetlights, 37 high-definition CCTVs, 18 emergency telephones, 30 vehicle incident detection system (VIDS) and 10 variable message signs (VMS) along its alignment. The toll plazas are also unconventional in their design as they allow PROLINTAS to easy implement a multi-lane free flow (MLFF) tolling system.

Meanwhile, eco-friendly initiatives are part of DASH’s development, with solar panels and rainwater harvesting system put in place at various areas to recover resources, while the toll plaza operations buildings have a green turf roof to help out the environment.

Construction of DASH, which costs RM4.2 billion, began in August 2016 and the main sections of highway have been completed as of September 30, 2022, with only finishing touches left to do. Unlike SUKE that is being opened in stages, the entire DASH highway will be accessible to the public when it is officially launched.
