Shelby Focus ST unveiled at NAIAS Detroit 2013

Shelby American’s love for the Blue Oval runs deep, and despite its name, isn’t confined, it seems, to vehicles made on the far side of the Atlantic. The famous Ford fettler has unveiled the Shelby Focus ST you see here at the ongoing Detroit motor show.

Limited to 500 units annually, the car carries on with the 250 PS turbocharged 2.0 litre EcoBoost unit from the standard Focus ST (a tuning package is under development), but its suspension has been lowered and uprated. Bigger are the alloys, drilled Brembo brakes and Borla exhaust.

There’s a louvred bonnet, hydrocarbon grille inserts and a rear spoiler. Buyers can choose from three different graphics packages to personalise their car, including the iconic Shelby Mustang racing stripes. All of this goes for a shade under US$15k (RM45k). The price doesn’t include the donor car.

  • Talking about EcoBooost, when iis our SDAC going to give us the Ecoboost in the standard Focus? The 1.0 EcoBoost in the Ford Focus is the top seller and ONLY seller in Europe. It has even beaten the TDCi that people have stopped buying the TDCI in preference to the 1.0 Ecoboost. Why does Asia get the garbage 2.0 engine then?

The 1.0 Ecoboost, we save fuel and equivalent to a diesel economy, very good performance as well as lower road tax.

    • I heard something about the fuel quality or something( i must be wrong). The 1.0 ecoboost is a great little engine and one of the most ingenious tech I’ve seen in years since the VTEC or Valvetronic, along with Fiats 2 cylinder MultiAir engine. BUT that dose’t mean our 2.0 is garbage. It’s still a good engine, just not on par with the 1.0 for brilliance.

And If the 1.0 comes to Malaysia , any chance it will be for a lower spec version , I don’t mind a cheaper around 100k less speced Focus.

        • Nah, I actually don’t own any car, just working my way up and into society now, so I say stuff because I really have nothing better to do time to time. I just got bored and guy who has the exact same name as I always use so decided to reply him. When it comes to car, I consider myself as a realiist and the Ford’s 2.0 engine is no garbage for the performance figure it has.

  • A Shelby that is FWD and with the absence of American Racing stripes seems abit sacrilegious . But the end result still looks great. But the normal ST has always been a great Ford .

Shelby has alaways has connection with cars from Europe ,or more specifically the United Kingdom. Amongst Carroll’s first car was a American modifield UK Sunbeam Tiger or Shelby Tiger. And let’s not forget the historically important connection between Shelby and AC cars UK that resulted the now legendary Shelby Cobra.

It really baffles me that people living in high income countries can buy their cars cheaply whereas its the other way round for us. Low income but very high car prices. I guess widening the income gap btween the rich and the poor is really working overtime in the car industry in malaysia.
