2007 Volvo XC90 V8 Sport

Volvo Cars has just released the Volvo XC90 V8 Sport in the US market, responding to customer requests for a sportier Volvo XC90. Going head to head with the likes of the BMW X5 4.4i (or the upcoming 4.8si), the Volvo XC90 V8 Sport has a 311hp V8 engine, and comes in two unique colour options – Passion Red and Electric Silver.

The chassis has had some enhancements to improve it’s driveability – stiffer antiroll bars and shock absorbers, quicker steering response, and the Nivomat self-levelling system is installed standard. On the exterior, you have twin chromed exhaust pipes and large 19 inch alloy sport wheels. The wheel arches come with color-matched extenders, which puts emphasis on the presence of the huge wheels. Chrome details such as the roof rails have been replaced with a matte silver finish, and the skid plate is lower.

As for the interior, you have sports seats and a sport steering wheel as well as gear shift done up in perforated leather. Instrument dials light up with a shimmering blue luster.

The Volvo XC90 V8 Sport is a limited edition vehicle, and will be on sale in Q4 2006 at US$49,300,00. That’s RM 181,281.00, but of course you know the deal with our tax brackets, oh well. More photos after the jump, with enlarged versions too!

I had driven the XC90 2.5T up Genting Highland with 7 adults on board. The power was sufficient and the torque was spot-on. Overall, I felt that it was a fantastic SUV capable of seating seven. The XC90 V8 must be even a better drive with those additional power and torque minus the minor turbo lag. Not much change in the interior though except for the silver trim.

Instead of just using the twin tail pipe on the left, they should have made a twin exhaust with twin tail pipe, one on both sides. A big V8 engine in front should deserve that treatment at the back as an indication of its potential.

The XC90 was never as nice to drive as the X5, but then the XC90 is the better car for a familyman, which is why you would want a big SUV. Otherwise, you're just a poser.

It would close to RM500K when if it comes to Malaysia. I would think the X5 is a better drive too having won numerous award and BMW has always been known for thei handling prowness. Wonder how the Audi Q7 fare against XC90 and X5?

its not gonna be RM181k when this reaches our shores.. it'd probly be close to 1/2 a mil. if it was 181 k it'd be damn cheap for a volvo like that.

volvo used to budget lux car owner, this i dont know ,i belive relatively cheaper than other top marque, for malaysian ..a lot to appreciate than to buy.

volvo always had a clean design start from the begining(oops 700 series a bit bothersome), but the late mercedes start to get busy with horizantal lines, busy interior with plastics sometimes lexus is simpler. perhaps chrysler makes them do that.

vw bm audi more porscheish. clean & solid

volvo ok got hips(buldging waist line exegerated identity from its former 200 series) . anyway volvo got its own fan.

    club.

interestingly in the uk volvo less prone to rust than the merc.

The XC90 kerb weight is over two tonnes. That's was the peformance was still poor when comparing the XC90 T6 2.9 with the X5 4.4. But the new V8 engine should even out the odds, HOPEFULLY. Actually, I fell in love the XC90 when I first saw it in the KLIMS 2003. Sigh, too bad it's way beyond my reach.

Yes, they should concentrate on removing the weight of the car rather than make it easier by placing a bigger engine

    2 tonnes ! That's a lot of steel for the money :)

Anyway, Volvo with safe car icon need that amount of steel to protect its name :)

yeah murano is way ahead of time i agree. its a phenmenon and always volvo is at the bottom luxury car league. to be enjoy by budget middle class. but can it look batter,… well they were too much stick on their yesteryears concept car, should be revised i think,

well at the moment range rover sport (is!),and the cayanne(sort of, well..) a benchmark for a genuine suv. my opinion…

    proton suv..when???
