A rear wheel drive variant of the Nissan Navara called the Navara Calibre 4X2 has been launched in Malaysia! You get to save some money in purchase price as well as shed the extra weight of the 4X4 system – a smart bet if you want to buy a truck for its power and lifestyle applications but without the 4X4 offroad capabilities. However you will not be getting the same power as the other variants!
The engine looks the same – a 2.5 litre YD25DDTi common rail injection diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger – but the power output is quite different. We are used to the Navara’s massive 174 PS and 403Nm of torque engine output figures, but in this Calibre model the engine only makes 144 PS and 356Nm of torque. I wonder if a simple modification of ECU parameters and/or boost levels will help ‘unleash’ the 174 PS.
The rest of the Navara Calibre 4X2’s equipment sheet is not simply a version of the 4X4 LE Automatic without the 4X4 system. Its headlamps are halogen instead of Xenon and it does not come with the LE and SE’s Dual SRS front airbags. However unlike the baseline 4WD manual, the Calibre 4X2 has ABS and EBD brakes. Speakers are 4 instead of 6 mated to a single CD player instead of a CD changer. The interior trim is fabric. The overhead console box and passenger A-pillar assist grip has been removed. But the Calibre 4X2 does get the interior silver finish trim of the top of the line LE, something which the SE Manual and Standard Manual doesn’t get.
The following is the price for all Nissan Navara models including the 4X2 Calibre in Peninsular Malaysia, OTR for private registration:
- Nissan Navara 2.5 Automatic LE 4×4 – RM105,800
- Nissan Navara 2.5 Manual SE 4X4 – RM94,800
- Nissan Navara 2.5 Manual Standard 4X4 – RM89,800
- Nissan Navara 2.5 Automatic Calibre 4X2 – RM89,900
Look after the jump for some showroom photos of the Navara Calibre 4X2. It is available in a special Desert Gold colour alongside Supreme Black, Tungsten Silver & Twilight Gray.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Hmm… Nice name and nice car esp this new version, it will atract more people to buy but why the price is still quite high? I also hope that they will change the rims, to a sportier looking one, the rims that it currently having now looks dull.
low classss!
the gold colour looks awful…the colour should be made a bit lighter.
Navara is CBU or CKD?
No LSD. Need to install one to become drift pickup truck. Yahoo!
Its CBU Thailand.
Who is their target buyers? We know Americans (male) are more towards truck.. the bigger their are the manlier they become.. Malaysia are more towards comfort, brand resale value sort of thing (generalisation). Which group this new Nazara fit in Paul?
wonder if they’re bringing in the facelifted, more powerful Navara
Better pray Thailand launches the facelift Navara sooner. Or else it’ll be a loooong time before Tan Chong brings the facelift Navara in.
Currently just pray Tan Chong brings in the 6MT version Navara Calibre. Then Isuzu D-Max will be sweating like hell.
some “guys” with full of ariels always use navara…modified navara…very cun ooo hilux n triton also kalah
Beige interior in a pickup?
target market is those construction companies or materials delivery drivers.
those that need a lot of power, and bigger space which is something the vanette or liteace cannot provide.
the 4×4 is for those who work in rough terrain etc, 4×2 probably for the urban construction companies.
no i am not nissan’s marketing manager. lol.
received the navara 2.5 se last month,174ps means a lot to diesel engine .(the plus point of getting 4×4 version) , ,,,other brand can perform better with 4×2 with 142ps of power,,30 ps of extra power means alot man (comparison during uphill climb and overtaking)
Hi,
Can I know how far can 1 liter of diesel take this truck away ?
Thanks
The price is still very expensive, bcoz airbags has been removed!! Why? Airbags shd be fitted as standard accessory, right?
Thought that Nissan just upped the output of the engine to 190bhp??? Hmm anyway, Paul, heard any news about the VW Amarok making its way here? That would given the Navara some challenge.
whoa, still prefer the mother trucker than this uncle-trucker.
ALL MODELS ARE GETTING REFRESHED..PLS DO SOMETHING TO THE BOXY SERENA..LAUNCH A NEW GENERATION VARIANT AND REDUCE THE PRICE..THE PRICE IS TOO HIGH COMPARED TO THE TECHNOLOGY..
Why bring this in when the whole world knows that the facelift Navara has been launched in Auatralia? Perhaps TC is buying old stock from Thailand cheaply and sell them here at inflated price.
COOL!
still turn to DMax which considered value for money, either 4×4 or 4×2 :-).
I prefer this to the D MAX, and as for the gold color, well each to their own, I have just bought one and I chose the gold, but it is the fact we all like different things that makes us individuals.
Hi,
Can I know whether this car spend more diesel than Frontier ?
I prefer an automatic version just because my left leg always feel pain after ride on manual version., but I can’t afford the 4X4 automatic version.
Anyone whether Nawara is in high demand ? to get one I need to wait 1.5 months whereas for Frontier, week after next I already can get one.
which ones of these cars most powerfull????between auto transmission and manual????AUTO LE or MANUAL SE???lets says if i’m bringing them to the offroad,is it posibble are they can make it???i used frontier dual air bags for heavy duty jobs…unlikely,,the results tollaly disappointed me…not more than 300 kg weight,,the badly smoke suddenly appears..routine maintenance i’m always servicing to the Tan Chong..i spend a lots of money..
