Toyota FT-86 platform to spawn 4-door RWD sedan?

Toyota FT-86 platform to spawn 4-door RWD sedan?

Apparently Toyota’s new rear wheel drive platform underpinning the Toyota FT-86 will spawn a small sports sedan that will be somewhere in between the BMW 1-Series and the 3-Series in size.

And from what Autocar UK is inferring according to Japanese market sources, it seems this sedan has more likelihood of making it to production compared to the FT-86 Coupe. Seems that the FT-86 has been pushed back to 2013 due to economic reasons.

We may end up never seeing the FT-86 in production despite it looking so very production ready. But we may end up seeing a platform stablemate with four doors instead. Look after the jump if you want to enjoy a photo gallery of the good-looking FT-86 again.

Love it. Will buy even if it comes with 2 doors only. Because it is a racing car from Toyota. Other brand? Not sure about their reliability and after-sale service.

After switching over to rear wheel drive 4 years ago i have to say that it is definitely a more driver-oriented layout. Thumbs up to Toyota for recognizing this and bringing in the FT-86…I’m waiting with bated breath :)

Love it much when the pics of the 2 doors was released via media and 4 doors would make it much more interesting ^_^. But then again, not sure whether am i able to afford it when it comes into production T_T (sad).

3rd generation of Mark X for 4 door sedan? Mostly i think is about the marketing… If not mistaken Subaru is going to release their newest Subaru WRX Sti using this platform but wif 4wd… So i think Toyota will release later to prevent them from fighting each other…

i think weird lo if wan make 4-door intiald car coz now this position already filled by vios trd , if they make ft-86 salons den meaning 2 toyota car fighting at same place unless they make it under lexus (lexus ft86 , below is250)

nope. it won’t compete with vios which is a low level toyota car. in terms of positioning, i suspect if they built a 4-door, it will most probably be positioned above the altis but below the camry.

there may be a lexus version… who knows? but if that happens, it is most certainly going to be below the is250 and be the entry level lexus. pricewise, it could be around the camry if badged as a lexus.

LOL. Of course there is. But only when you drive closer to the upper limit of the performance/handling envelope.

That said, there are good rwd’ers and bad rwd’ers. Being RWD alone doesn’t mean it handles good. I have had some really bad (but rather entertaining :D ) RWD cars.

Would certianly welcome Toyota back in RWD. Sedan or not regardless.
