Nothing like getting those competition miles under the belt for better street cred, and in the case of Chinese automaker Great Wall, the company has decided that nothing less than going the Dakar Rally route will suffice.
It has entered a Haval – also known as the Hover – in the race, which takes place across Argentina and Chile at the moment; the 2011 rally route loops from Buenos Aires to northwest Chile and back again. The company introduced its Haval SUV racing team at a ceremony during the Guangzhou auto show a couple of weeks back, and will also be assigning three support cars and two service cars to the rally team.

sadly…why the name is Great Wall? not commercial at all.
imagine when ppl ask u, what car u drive?
i drive a great wall. LOL!!!
yup. too nationalistic. if they really want to go global, best to ditch nationalistic names for something more international sounding.

Great Wall of China is a famous name in China which is a huge market by itself.
The stigma is that many people still associate poorer quality when goods are manufactured in China, particularly home-grown brands.
This is a very nice design but the side door panels too flat n plain and could do a little bit better than this.
Most important the trim n powertrain almost as good as Japanese standard of smoothness.
They are improving by leaps n bounds every year becos of the huge boost from the local market. They also know they need to compete to survive as they do not have a strong backer like a big oil company to back them up.
Driven to survive, in the process, succeed.

This is partly their (China) own doing. Remember baby milk laced with melamine, fruits laced with dangerous wax, poisonous paint in toys etc. All these seriously damage their reputation.
Hope they’ll wise up and recover the trust of the world.
the big Q is will u buy/drive a china made car???… they can enter F1 for all i care but the answer from me is NO, at least not in the near future.. i’ll reconsider maybe after 5-10 years depend on their progress..
