VIDEO: Toyota FT-86 teased ahead of Tokyo show debut

Enthusiasts’ necks have grown long waiting for Toyota’s FT-86 sports car. Fortunately, the wait is almost coming to an end, as the final production car will debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. In the meantime, here’s a teaser video showing Toyota engineers choosing wheels and drawing grilles for their RWD machine.

We can also see clearly the D-4S four-pot boxer engine borrowed from Subaru, who of course have their own version of the car called BR-Z.

VIDEO: Toyota FT-86 teased ahead of Tokyo show debut

The last we’ve seen of the FT-86 was back in March at Geneva, where Toyota wheeled out the FT-86 II Concept. That black and rather sinister looking machine was supposed to be closer to the production car than the original concept car. Click here to view our previous post.

Compact body, rear driven, boxer powered, six-speed manual = I can’t wait to drive this thing!

Correct. Featuring the drift king himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Yeah, AE86’s light weight should do better.

yeah but the FT86 benefits from years of modern technology and learnings @ toyota since the AE86. so the FT86 might just give the AE86 a good fight.

  • Haiz…I think the real production unit is nothing near to ft-86 II concept. The headlight totally different, not nice one. Can’t they just produce the same car as concept II? I guess dream and reality are 2 different things after all.

Toyota seldom designs cars with passion. Hopefully this is one of the very few.

not really ‘finally, something exciting’, but more like ‘finally, toyota start to build cars with passion AGAIN’. or at least they’re trying ;) also, never has a soon to be launched toyota ever get so much publicity and hype pre-launch.. good job to their PR team.
