Suzuki exits US car business, focus on bikes, ATVs

Suzuki is getting out of the car business in the USA. The company says it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganisation and focus on selling motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and outboard engines for boats, the Associated Press says. AP adds that the US filing is unrelated to Japan’s Suzuki.

It was reasoned that in recent years, Suzuki tried to blend the design cues of its motorcycles in its cars, like the smart looking Kizashi midsize sedan. But its marketing lacked the muscle of bigger, stronger rivals, pushing it to the margins.

Suzuki sold 21,188 cars in America so far this year, down 4.7% from a year ago, according to Autodata. The big seller was the SX4 crossover, accounting for about two-thirds of sales.

Sure or not…I also drive one. Once I hit 150, the car vibrates like crazy. Reason: Malaysia where got such a nice road except for Sepang F1 track

Shows that not all Japanese brands are good brands!

Even here in Malaysia Suzuki is selling much lower price than it’s competitors yet nobody buys them. I’ve tried the Vitara, even though imported directly from Japan but the quality sucks!

  • Danny, according to the article, the affected parties are in the United States right? We are not affected here right?

If we are affected, what will happen to the current Suzuki owners?

Marketing also very poor locally, how to sell? But anyway, Suzuki Kizashi is a decent alternative alongside Subaru Legacy in the sea of of Camry & Accord & Teana..
