Ford Ka Concept previews future global A-segment car

Ford-Ka-Concept-002

This is the new Ford Ka concept, which previews a new global A-segment model developed in Brazil which unites previously separate model line-ups such as the Figo, the South American Ka and the European Ka.

The Ka targets emerging markets such as South America and India and who knows, if they’re serious about getting more volume in the ASEAN market they could introduce it here too, to fight against the likes of the Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto.

We first saw spyshots of the Ford Ka on test in June. There was even a sedan body derivative published on other sites as well – we think that might be the production version of the Ford Escort concept shown in China.

Although this model has the concept suffix in its name, it looks pretty much production ready. Give it some toned down more production ready headlamps and it should be ready to go. Engine options will be small and fuel efficient – we could be looking at a 1.0 litre three-cylinder and the 1.5 litre that’s currently found in the Ford Fiesta facelift.

The front is curiously familiar like Mitsu Attrage. The rear is a copy of first gen Toyota Yaris/Echo. Overall, this is not as funky-looking as the original Ka which even got a cabrio variant.

Ford Malaysia should bring it in eventually. It looks decent. They could follow the same formula as the Picanto and it would put even more pressure on the national makes.

It should drive pretty well too. It’s a Ford.

  • wouldn’t this cannibalize the fiesta? both same segment. how will ford differentiate them?

    • this would be cheaper, the fiesta is supposedly a honda city rival, but due to taxes its a lot more expensive, if they are going to ckd it, it would put it directly against picanto, but i have doubts they would ckd it.
