Mercedes has teamed up with Pebble to create a smartwatch that communicates with its cars. Showcased at the ongoing 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, the watch can communicate with Mercedes’ Digital DriveStyle app to allow drivers to easily view vehicle information such as fuel level, door-lock status and vehicle location on their wrists – even from outside the car.
Besides acting as a ‘second screen’ for your smartphone, the Pebble smartwatch alerts you to real-time hazards when you’re in the car – like accidents, road construction or stalled vehicles up ahead – by vibrating. The three watch buttons can be customised to activate your favourite Digital DriveStyle features like reporting hazards, auto-routing, Siri activation, remote-controlling media, or quickly showing nearby traffic conditions.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Not trying to be negative, but with built-in GPS, smartphone and table, will it blend? I don’t see the use of this if i have waze and alike apps in my smartphone and the existing GPS navigation in my car.
Agree w Rocco.
If I’m already in the car, why not let the car computer system inform me instead?
And if I’m driving, I don’t think I like to be distracted by keep looking at a always vibrating watch! (everyday there’re lots of jams; accidents etc) Not very safe right!
If there’s a driver that needs a watch to tell them fuel level is low, or door not lock…personnaly I think that person should quit driving.
this is just something they coming out to make use of technology..
just like iphone where u dont really need a finger print to unlock the phone.its just a gimmick. dont have to take it seriously. not like u are forced to wear the watch if your buy a merc
Just want I need, more screens. I can’t wait for Google Glass, then I have 3 screens to focus on. More screens = safer driving. yeah.
Most Mercedes drivers are rich uncle. I doubt most of them can see the tiny text on the Pebble watch. And the actual Pebble watch has really cheap plastic look. Will this uncle rather wear their Rolex or this cheap plastic watch?? :P
