Another month, another transporter carrying a Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, except this time there’s more than one at a go. Reader WK Foong saw a gaggle of CLAs on the move earlier on Jalan Tun Razak, and added that one of the white cars wore a CDI badge designation, which would likely make it a CLA 220 CDI. Dickson Tham also spotted the transporter on the same road, near the IJN.
No idea if these cars are grey imports or Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vehicles; the advent of a diesel variant would suggest they aren’t the latter’s, unless there’s some field evaluation going on – word on the grapevine is that the CLA-Class is due to make its market debut through official channels only in CLA 200 guise, with its Camtronic-equipped M 270 DE 16 AL 1.6 litre mill good for 154 hp and 250 Nm.
Like the W176 A-Class, there’s also a 2.0 litre 208 hp and 350 Nm ‘250’ model type, but we’ve heard that might not be introduced here, at least not initially – MBM is set to bring in the CLA 45 AMG version though, but we’ll know for sure what the game plan is when the car is eventually launched!

CLA is a good & nice design car. But it’s a cramp car too. Furthermore, it’s a FWD. Dissappointing.

The CLA is a weird car, from some angle [like low rear 3/4 view seen on the transporter] it looks awesome, but top 3/4 or front, I just don’t like it and this opinion of mine clash with a huge majority of Paultan’s comment viewership.
But nevertheless, in the states(and suprisingly in Japan), the relatively cheap price, FWD and small displacement layout meant that it is actually stealing sales….from D-segment sedans like the Camry and the Sonata. Espacially younger, more nacissistic and image-concious are leaing towards these benzs as their choice of wheels, mostly because of pedigree and the low(er) cost of access to it. Interesting to see how well it would do here considering Malaysian are a more sedan-loving market.

This is definitely been brought by grey importer. There is a big recon car dealership situated opposite of IJN, in fact you can search few ads in mudah for recond CLA, price starts from 350k, which is a major rip off!

These r most probably grey imports.. Usually new imports by mercedes will have their wheels & some other body parts wrapped by plastic

CEO Malaysia Automotive Institute, Madani Sahari recently was interviewed at BFM and mentioned the volume of these second hand grey imports by open AP holders are just 30,000 a year and should not be too overly a concern compare to 640,000 new cars registered yearly volume since is is a merely 5 %
But I was looking at the luxury car segment and found the total new luxury car volume for Malaysia is roughly only 15,000 which is half of that 30,000 per year. Than how earth does that not matter to BMW , Mercedes , Audi and other luxury car maker in Malaysia ?

Unfortunately it doesnt look as good as the A class. Somehow the CLA looks not balance in terms of the looks. The back is small while the front is big.

Confirmed is recon. Because if its official MBM car the number plate, even though blank, will have a rectangular shape for our country number plate and also dealer’s name underneath the plate. This without plate cover definitely is UK spec. If U all see Square plate cover or anything shorter than Malaysian standard plate size, tats from Japan.

Nowadays grey importers making huge sump of money. Went to MB to checl out w204 c200 avantgarde year 2013 not pre-owned with 0 mileage selling 220K where grey imported selling 235K with 6k miles on the ODO.
